First off, I love Judith McNaught! I have read all of her books now and have found the characters come alive with the stories. However, this is not an example of her work. In fact, if this had been the FIRST book I read of hers, I would never have continued to read her at all! Kate is the main character and is whiny, racist, and just a spoiled brat. Throughout the entire book, I disliked her and found her manipulative, shallow, and self centered. Her romantic interest, Ramon, is charming in every way, except he likes HER and it never makes sense. He is so brilliant in all other parts of his life, yet I was angry at him throughout for falling in love with her. She is repulsed by his darker skin - she fears him. Yet she agrees to try out marriage to him within a week of meeting him. At the most "heart-wrenching" scene, I started laughing out loud! Yes, it IS that bad. No, you shouldn't judge her based on this book - ANY of her other books are wonderful (Perfect is my favorite.)

Judith McNaught happens to be one of my all time favorite authors. There isn't a book of hers that I don't absolutely love. However, this one really was a disappointment to me. The heroine was so frustrating. I had a really hard time trying to finish the book.

Great writing overall...some of the storyline was a little hard to swallow at times but then we all want a happy ending don't we? :-)

While the book did help get through a rather drab Sunday, it didn't really match up to other McNaught books. Typically, I re-read a lot of her books, but not this time around.

Katie Connelly is the daughter of wealthy grocers. She is pampered, spoiled and only knows of the world and the people around her, which is why she doesn't know what to make of the tall, dark and handsome Puerto Rican man who rescues her from the harassment of a drunken ex-boyfriend outside a bar one night. Ramon Galverra is gorgeous, sensual, charming, regal, smooth, but temperamental and alpha male-ish -- not to mention a major male chauvinist -- and Katie is terrified of him. Physically, he reminds her of her cheating, abusive ex-husband, and she senses that Ramon is hiding something from her. Ramon is a powerful tycoon on the verge of bankruptcy and he has nothing to offer Katie other than a simple life in a small cottage in Puerto Rico. Will that be enough for Katie? Will Katie learn to trust Ramon and will she want to marry him? There are some twists throughout the novel.

"On Friday, a sensuous stranger entered Katie's life. By Sunday, her world would never be the same...

Stunning Katie Connelly submerged her painful past in a promising career, an elegant apartment, and men she could keep at a distance. Yet something vital was missing from her life -- until she met proud, rugged Ramon Galverra. With his urbane charm and his passionate nature, he gave her a love she had never known. In his arms, she came fully alive to his every touch. Still she was afraid to surrender her heart to this strong, willful, secretive man -- a man from a different world, a man with a bold, uncertain future...

New York Times bestselling author Judith McNaught captures the thrill of a once-in-a-lifetime passion in this tender and spellbinding novel."

I liked this book as opposed to even those books that are vaunted triumphs of Judith McNaught. There was no UNNECESSARY misunderstandings between the main characters. No horrible raping and degrading like McNaught seems to do with a lot of her other heroines (ugh!). I think the heroine was understandably nervous, and the guy as well. I liked them both a lot. Ramon does exhibit an unlikely amount of patience with Katie, but that's just kudos to him if anyone can really do that. Of course the courting was short and hurried, and that she GOES with him so quickly to P R - therin lies your stretch of belief (and the quick capitulation of the parents). Both the main characters are portrayed as extremely beautiful or handsome, with their own vulnerabilities, which I thought is really sweet.

High finance, unfortunate past marriage history and a Memorial Day acquaintance set the stage for a fast moving romance. The man is mysterious, the woman is not quite sure of him but can't keep her hands off him....

Kate meets Ramon and, of course falls in love. She finds out, however, that he is not relally the man she thought he was. Perhaps she will find more to love in the man he really is.

Just a wonderful book...lost in the fantasy of instant love. Seems a little farfetched but a great ride. Tall dark and handsome gains new meaning!
