TEXAS HERO -- this is the story of little Thad Conway [all grown up] 22 years old. He seems like a man of much more experience.
Coming back from Mexico from a buying trip in acquiring a blooded mare he runs smack into a stagecoach holdup. With far reaching consequences.

Here he meets the prim, bookish spinster, Caroline Adams. Uhuh! Secrets and mysteries start right away. Very prim, Miss Adams soon learns that she has been rescued by "The Texan" an acclaimed gunfighter.

She wants to see that he is getting much needed medical attention and walks into the surgery where he is being made to bite onto a strip of leather. Nothing is being used to knock him out of his pain.

Little does she know that Doc Conway is The Texan's brother and Doc is teaching Runs With The Wind his medical knowledge.

What a family she is soon introduced to with Jessie and Cole Matthews and their three children - then there is Doctor Dan Conway and Morning Light with their son and daughter and Two Moons son.

Caroline needs to be free and indepentant and teach the children of the families of Hope, Texas. She must be above reproach. She cringes at the thought.
She makes a number of friends and does a little matchmaking and gets a few kisses from Thad that scramble her thought processes.

Thad is soon finding it hard to stop his obsession with kissing Caroline. And dreaming of more.
Then a stalker appears. Caroline refuses to admit it to Thad.

Ah, the twists and turns that begin to happen and how Thad is finally convinced that the gun can't answer all problems makes for a lively and fitting tale of "The Texan" who still becomes a Hero.

Caroline Adams tries to escape her sordid past by posing as the new schoolmarm of a small Texas town. But Thad Conway doesn't fall for it. He does fall for her and helps her overcome the shadows in her past. This is a good romanctic read.

The way some things were explained, I had a feeling that this was part of a series. Bummer! After finishing the story, I found that TEXAS HERO is the third book of a trilogy. The books in the series are listed below.

Caroline Adams is on her way to a teaching job in Hope, Texas, when the stagecoach in which she is traveling is attacked by robbers. Everyone on the stagecoach is killed except this young woman. As three men are assaulting her, Thad Conway stumbles upon the robbery and saves Caroline.

However, he is injured and they hide out in a cave. The next morning, Thad and Caroline are attacked (by the same robbers) again. Thad is injured again. They travel to town quickly so Thad can see a doctor.

As Caroline walks into the surgery a little after Thad, she sees that the doctor is demanding that he bite onto a strip of leather. Caroline is horrified by the pitiful doctoring until she is told that Thad refused anything for pain and that the doctor is his brother.

Miss Adams doesnt talk about herself and Thad starts to wonder about her. He is also attracted to the prim spinster but isnt happy about it. Caroline soon learns that she was rescued by a famous gunfighter, The Texan.

Caroline soon settles in and starts teaching; both she and the local families are happy with the school and her teaching. When folks ask Caroline about some of the local activities, she tells them that shes never attended anything such as they are discussing. The reader and the parents start to see that there is something unusual about Caroline.

At the church social, her food basket is bought by a stranger for an unbelievable $100. During the hub-bub over the strangers purchase, Caroline disappears. Thad finds her and demands an explanation.

This story is so good because of all the twists and turns; things that we think mean one thing turn out to be another. This a great story and a quick read.
