I enjoyed the book very much--I love to read 1800's historical romances and enjoy reading Cassie Edwards and Karen Kay books.

This is book 2 in the Whispering Mountain series. While each book can stand alone it is best to read them in order as main characters from subsequent books are introduced as minor characters in each book and you learn the entire story of each character as you read the entire series.
Ms Thomas captures the essence of 1800 Texas as she tells the stories of the men and women who fought to conquer and hold their lands.
Tobin has helped to hold the Whispering Mountains ranch since he was a small boy and when he is asked to protect the daughter of one of his brother's friends he does it without hesitation never realizing the danger to which he would be entering. Liberty is a spoiled rich girl but soon learns what is needed and necessary to survive when she is running to protect her own life. A wonderful love story .

A worthwhile sequel to the delightful, different, Texas Rain, but the premise begins to get old about halfway through the book. Enjoyed it, but I don't think it had enough heart, as it definitely didn't tug on my heartstrings. Don't skip it, but hope for better in the third of the trilogy.

Enjoyed the second book even more than the first in this trilogy and I really, really liked the first book. (heart flutter) . . . love the hero in this story.
This is one of my least-favorite of Jodi Thomas books. Cheesy is an unfortunate word Id use to describe some of the authors descriptions of male characters and some of the dialog. Since Thomas has demonstrated considerable mastery with both dialog and descriptions, this was an unwelcome surprise.
I was also disappointed in the lack of genuine emotion between the hero and heroine; however there was a plenty of lust. There was a running dialog going on inside Tobin and Liberty -- ruminating on the unsuitability of the other person they would not fit in each others world.
As a reader, I was troubled by the thought: How would they compromise after the passion was gone? There didnt seem to be enough genuine emotion to carry them for a lifetime.
On the positive side, I was delighted to read another book about this strong and resilient McMurray family. Mrs. Dickerson plays an important (if short) role in this book; she is a charmer. We have all known a teacher of Mrs. Dickersons stripe fearless in the face of adversity and assured enough of her place in the communitys hierarchy to take even adult miscreants to task.
Jodi Thomas outdid herself in the unique way she introduced Drummond Roak. Ive read this whole series several times. Because I listened to the book this time, I got a new perspective on Drum -- the reader made Drum sound a young as Thomas intended. The reader made the disparity between Sage and Drums ages and maturity very clear.
When Ive read this book, I viewed them as much more of the same age - maturity. Now it is easy to see why the McMurrays were so appalled by Drums bravado (In one instance, Drum tells the McMurray men that he plans to return and make Sage his woman). Drum is such a presence; it is fortunate for Tobin and Liberty that he only has a small role in this story. As it is, hes so interesting he nearly walked away with the book!
Dont worry, Drum will grow and change in books 3 and 4. Roak will emerge as a worthy male lead in the 4th book!

I didn't care for this second installment of Whispering Mountain. I liked Tobin but Liberty I thought too shallow. And I felt the story was meandering and the ending abrupt. However, I did like glimpsing into Sage's story and I'm still intrigued with the oldest brother Teague. Not a keeper in my book.
