This was a great story, lots of twists and turns. Good information about old silks, and old artifacts. Great reminder about stolen antiquities, their value and what can happen with big money smuggling. The characters are there as usual and following up on their lives is always fun. The Monday Bunch is there, along with Lars, Jill and Mike Malloy.
Betsy Devonshire has become like an old friend, and a return trip to her Crewel World shop in Minnesota is always a relaxing, enjoyable interlude. Betsy's Monday Bunch group member Doris Valentine has just returned from a vacation to Thailand. She shows them a small stone Buddha that she agreed to deliver to a local antiques dealer for an American silk factory owner she met in Thailand. But the dealer is found dead the next day, the Buddha missing, and Doris's apartment trashed. Then an attempt is made on Doris's life, and an alarmed Betsy must solve the mystery soon if her friend is to survive.
An enjoyable a cozy as the rest of the series, this one nevertheless had more non-sequitur interludes than usual, which seemed to be included just for filler and perhaps some attempt at character development. However, as they stopped short of being boring and did not slow down the pace of the story too much, I didn't mind and was able to finish this in a day.
