This entry in the Mitch Rapp series is good if you are reading the series in order, because it brings together the characters from Term Limits and Transfer of Power and brings continuity to all of Flynn's books so far. Also, I enjoyed the story much better than the last book - it was more suspenseful.
Helpful Score: 2
A real page turner. This book should be read with "Separation of Power." "The Third Option" is the first book with "Separation of Power" as the sequel.
Helpful Score: 2
Just the book for those who seek out intrigue, behind-the-scenes betrayal and politics in Washington DC.
The character Mitch Rapp is one of the most memorable I've met in a long time, and the stories Vince Flynn has composed around Rapp are so intriguing it's hard to put the book down.
I've just started the third book in the series. If you have not read the book that starts the series, get Term Limits, also on my bookshelf, as your first, and get this one as your next 'read'. I will have the third book posted shortly as i can barely stop reading this intriguing series!

The 3rd Mitch Rapp novel. Great read.
A fast moving thriller. I usually have a pretty good guess as to "who done it" but I had no idea until the end.
I think that this story is a little too predictable,Mitch survives everything and at the end the ultimate bad guy gets to live another day for another book.

Loved it! Couldn't put it down!
I will read any Vince Flynn book and his character, Mitch Rapp, is a character for all times. Mitch is a precursor for Jack bauer...
I almost could feel Mitch Rapp's emotions and struggles.
Another action-packed thriller...as great a read as all the others he wrote. I'm a grandmother in my sixties, and I love the way Flynn writes...the setting, the characters, the details (though I must admit some of it goes over my head). I'd highly recommend this book, but it sure helps to read them in order.
I loved this book and now love the author.
After seeing Vince Flynn interviewed by Glenn Beck I started reading all 11 of his books starting with Term Limits. I recommend reading them in sequence to maintain the continuity of the plots. I never was interested this genre before but these are really special. Flynn has amazing insight into the minds of terrorists and the brave men and women who are working silently under the media radar to save our Republic. The whole series is captivating and well-written - real page turners. Great insight into the secret world behind closed doors in Washington. The scenarios are frightening yet the triumph of our special forces gives us hope. Highly recommended for constitutional patriots.
Mitch Rapp series is a must read.
Another good Mitch Rapp book; the ending of one era and a new one for Mitch starts once this last job is finished.
Enjoyed the book. Like him as an author.
I love Vince Flynn's political thrillers. Even if you are not into politics, you'll learn a bit about how our government works in an enjoyable fictional context. It's an easy read with lots of intrique and action. You'll want to read more about our hero, Mitch Rapp in Flynn's other books.
Great Mitch Rapp story, as are all of Vince's books.
About the same as the others.
This author is addictive..I've read everything he's written
I liked the character and overall series premise but it feels like the same story again.
A good thriller with very likable good guys and despicable bad guys. A quick page-turner with plenty of action, but the plot is a bit contrived.

another fast paced action thriller
Another in the Vince Flynn series, number 2. Flynn is knowledgeable in a number of fields, including geopolitics. What makes the books so interesting to me is that he doesn't pull any punches when it comes to describing who the terrorists are, and how we should hunt them. This particular one adds just the right amount of mystery, intrigue, and even a hint of romance to make it that much more believable.
You can go to fantasticfiction.com to see the complete list of his published books in order. I'd recommend that you read them that way, since so far, the one builds upon the other.

Great page turner! Good beach read light yet exciting.
If you like a good espionage style mystery, this is the book for you!
I love all of Vince Flynn's books about Mitch Rapp and this was no exception. If I could have one wish about this book, it would have more about Mitch Rapp and not so much about other characters, although , I do understand that he has to develop background for the books that will be following. Can't wait to read the next one. Think I'll go and start right now:)
Excellent thriller with lots of action.
This political thriller comes to life with authentic detail and action tat sizzles.
GREAT BOOK.....
Another great book by Flynn with Rapp as the central character.
Terrorists and counterterreroists and Washington backstabbers. It has it all!
Timothy R. (KENTUCKYREDBONE) - reviewed The Third Option (Mitch Rapp, Bk 4) on + 11 more book reviews
I actually enjoyed this book!A spy story that drawed me in quick.
Another great Flynn book!
Story about CIA fiction with Mitch Rapp as the agent. Lot of action
Great Flynn. Mixes spy derring do with ugly political realities of Washington. Mitch Rapp is a winning, bad, good guy.
This series is excellent and can be read in a series or individually. You won't want to put it down.
Mitch Rapp, CIA counter-terrorism operative, teams up with Dr. Irene Kennedy, CIA Director, to take out a terrorism sponsor.
This a great series, a page turner. I'm really enjoying it.
Sort of frustrated that the way paperback swap numbers the books is not the way they should be read in order -- Wikipedia has put out the order that seems to be the best.
This book is closely tied to Transfer of power, read that one first then this one. Reading them together like that makes the story line seamless and almost as if they were one big story.

Great thriller read - another in the Mitch Rapp CIA series
Another good one in the Mitch Rapp series.
The cover is different on my book.
"IA counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp falls prey to government forces with an agenda of their own after Dr. Irene Kennedy is named the success or dying CIA Director Thomas Stansfield - a choice that enrages many in side the world's jmost powerful intelligence agency." Timely and exciting
When diplomacy has failed and military intervention is deemed inappropriate, our leaders sometimes take THE THIRD OPTION.
Good story. Typical Mitch Flynn. Exciting.
As all of these books...very very good!
