Another taut gripping and ORIGINAL story set in South Africa, featuring a veteran police detective focused on finding a tourist, a girl on the run before her would be killers do. Detective Grissel works with too few resources and manpower and too much interference but DOES not QUIT. Stories within stories, layers within layers. ALL Meyer's books are absolutely top notch, excellent characters and a glimpse of South Africa, a young country dealing with the effects of centuries of racism and corruption trying with some success to do right by everyone.
TENSE!
TENSE!
I'm somewhat new to Mr. Meyer's work, but I'm catching up, fast. The narrative occurs during the titled 13 hours, and while it's a little slow getting off the ground, the pace does quicken and eventually have you turning pages at an astonishing rate. Looking forward to future readings amongst the Meyer archives.
