I got this book from a game swap here on PBS. I put off reading it for a long time, but then offered it in another swap, so I needed to read it and pass it along. I had a hard time getting through the 1st page and put it down. Then picked it up again. I am so glad I did. I wish I had not putting this off so long. I saw by the 2nd chapter, that this was a great book. The first chapter was written in the VOICE of one character, Jane who is more reserved and proper. Then Chapter two is Phoebe talking, a chatty southern gal. Really you will love this book. I think the story line is great. You are told right away Jane, the reserved one can see ghosts. This book isnt cheezy or outrageous, but fun and intriguing.

There really wasn't a "whole lot" to this book. It was a cute mystery, set in the south and featured two loveable/likeable senior-female sleuths. The story had a little bit of suspense and plenty of southern humor. Bring this book to the beach or poolside.

Good debut novel - I plan on reading the sequel due out next year.
I thoroughly enjoyed this first mystery in the series. It starts a little slow, introducing the characters, but the mystery moves the second half along nicely. Jane Thistle is a wonderful character and while I didn't warm up to Phoebe Twigg at first, by the end of the story she was just as likeable. There are some great secondary characters and a touch of the paranormal. I highly recommend.
Each chapter alternately is from one of the two best friends perspective. As normal, the situation is shared -but the view and remembering the details is generally a bit different. Humor, smarts, and friendship are interwoven throughout the book.
The two ladies are opposites in many ways, yet find a way to respect each other and their differences - just like best friends.
Jane has the ability to see things that others cannot (a touch of paranormal), and has some skills that give her confidence & the ability to remain calm in any situation.
Pheobe is loud in both her appearance and being outspoken. She is willing to jump into new situations and take on about anything exciting. Not the quiet somber grandmother type at all!
It has a bit of everything. Mystery, suspense, strange yet interesting characters, a little American Indian lore, and all set in a beautiful location (which is make believe).
The only draw back to this book, is that it is not part of a series.
