Although it has been some time since I read this series, I remember I couldn't put it down. It keeps you going. My mother even got hooked - she has collected every book by V. C. Andrews, and is waiting for more!

A follow up to Flowers in the Attic and Petals on the Wind...just as good as the first two.......

I love VC Andrews. It takes a wicked mind to be able to think of a way to write such a story!!

Suspenceful follow up to "Flowers In The Attic"
I read this entire series as a young teenager. At the time I found them thrilling but disturbing. I've never read anything else V.C. Andrews has done -- I never felt the urge. But with this series, something about it captivated me and I ended up reading them all. I enjoyed them when I read them (which was a couple of times; a few years inbetween readings), I truly did. But now, they're a little too creepy for me (and I'm a gore and blood horror fan!). I suppose they're marketed for the pre-teen and teenage crowd, but I wouldn't consider them appropriate for a younger, more impressionable age group (incest aside, there are other equally disturbing issues in these books). But for older teens or adults who enjoy very strange and darker type stories, this whole series is for you.
3rd book in the series. Not bad, but the series starts to lose its luster in this book.
this is a very good book its the third in the dollanganger family series
Chris and Cathy Made Such a loving home for 14 year old Jory, so handsome so gentle and for Bart, who had such a dazzling imagination for a nine year old. Then the lights came on in the house next door. Soon the Old Lady in Black was there, watching them, guarded by her strange old butler. Soon she had Bart over for cookies and ice cream and asked him to call her Grandmother. And soon Barts transformation began. Fed by the hint of terrible things about his mother and father..leading him into shocking acts of violence. Now while this little boy trembles on the edge of madness, his anguished parents await the climax to a horror that flowered in an attic long ago, a horror whose thorns are still wet with blood, still tipped with fire.
The book is the thrilling third book in the Dollanganger series
the worst book in the series. you're made to sit through shoddy dialogue and boring scenarios while the characters struggle to figure out what the reader knew from the very beginning. many things are never explained, and while there are some interesting elements, all-in-all a fairly boring book. i had to force myself to finish it.
yet another great book
Another great addition to the Dollanganger series!
I can't say enough about V.Andrews and her books! This series rocks the house, and I will never forget it as long as I live!
Excellent Andrews story.
One of the best I've read!!
Good Story. Enjoyed this quite a bit. I recommend it highly.
This is the sequel to Flowers in the attic. It's a great book. I really don't know what to say because I don't want to give anything away.

This is book 3 of a four book boxed set. If necessary, I will break the set, but would prefer to have all 4 go at once.

Interesting characters and events. Good for young readers.
In this 3rd book, we see a grown Chris and Cathy struggling to move on with their lives and raise a family. Cathy's youngest son Bart is mentally unwell and this largely escapes their notice. It isn't helped by their new neighbors next door, and older woman in dresses only in black and her strange butler. Bart seems to want to spend all of his time over at the neighbor's house.
This series was my introduction into "horror" and the rest is history! These books, however, are not your blood-and-gore horror, as this is psychological, with a few tummy twisters thrown in here and there. I have read these over and over again and never fail to find something new.
enjoyed this series.
Why this transformation in 9 year old Bart after he began visiting the lady in black next door? Why these shocking acts of violence? Now while this little boy trembles on the edge of madness, his anguished parents await the climax to a horror that flowered in an attic long ago, a horror whose thorns are still wet with blood, still tipped with fire.
"If There be Thorns picks up a few years after the horrific events of Petals on the Wind. Chris and Cathy are now "married" and have relocated to Marin County, California.
They're now known as the Sheffields. Chris has a nice medical practice and Cathy teaches ballet. There children
Bart (Cathy's second child with her mother's husband) and Jory (Cathy's first child with her first husband, Julien Marquet). Over the years, Cathy and Chris have concoted a web of lies to cover their tracks and to keep the children from learning about their parents true identities. But a new couple has moved into the old house next door and they'll bring reality crashing down on the two kids like a house of cards.
How long can Chris and Cathy hide the truth from the children. Who are the new neighbors. What about Bart, a slightly troubled boy who'll grow up to be a handful. Can the family weather this new found trouble that they have inadvertantly created? To find out (and a whole lot more)
check out If There be Thorns.
Highly recommended."
