By this point, all of Salvatore's Drizzt books seem to run together in my mind, and this one adds, in a rather enjoyable way, to that long stream of story.

The book is a classic first-in-trilogy story, with big battles and lots of action to keep us interested, as well as new threads with other characters sure to play larger roles in the next few books.

I'm especially intrigued by the dwarves of Mirabar subplot, and how the short-sightedness of the human rules there drives the long-lived dwarves to drastic steps. It'll be very interesting to see how this plays out over the next few novels.

Highly recommended. I love R.A. Salvatore and if you have never read any of the Drizzt books you are missing out! Great quick read with amazing characters and storyline that makes you want to read more.

Drizzt rules! I was recently introduced to R.A.Salvatore, now I am going back through all his books and snapping them up so as to read them at my leisure. The Hunter's Blade Trilogy was some of the best fantasy that I've ever read. I can't wait to get all the other Drizzt books to see how it all starts!

Drizzt Do'Urden is one of my favorite characters in this realm, and this is a great story!

One dark elf. Two enchanted blades. One unknown enemy. And a horde of invaders.

When a blood thirsty band of orcs, led by an as-yet-unseen enemy, comes rampaging out of the Spine of the World, it lays waste to everything in its path. Dark elf ranger Drizzt Do'Urden and his most trusted friends find themselves in the path of destruction. As blades slash and feet trample, even they may not withstand the Thousand Orcs.

Having never read a book by this author before I was happy to have enjoyed this first choice to begin my reading experience and quickly ordered the next book in this series. I did find it difficult to get started, so many new unusual names to learn for the large cast of characters but once I had that sorted out it was a more engaging read. This might not have been the best book by Salvatore to begin with, but it wasn't hard to pick up on the story. I'll be watching for more books by this author in the future.
