Another great mystery by a favorite author. I did not know the killer until the final 3o pages so it keep me guessing and that is the sign of a great mystery.

Not the best novel I've read by this author. While I enjoy the heroine I may becoming weary of the plots by this writer in an attempt to keep the series going. As usual, the writing flows well.
This particular book begins with death when Flavia finds a dead man spread eagled on the back of his bedroom door on a contraption. She believes he has been murdered but there is no blood nor indication of physical trauma due to a weapon. Carefully, she observes the man's bedroom, finding several wrapped copies of books by a famous deceased author, an autographed copy belonging to a young woman she knows and is visited by a cat.
As the story unfolds the reader discovers that the man was the author who had supposedly died years earlier and chose to pursue a different life. There are more alias we find as the tale unfolds. Flavia talks with many people connected with the dead man, goes to London for research and tries to discover the reasons for the man's death and who might be responsible. The ending reveals all, of course, but I'm not certain I liked it. Following readers will need to decide for themselves.
