Intros to each author's style, past character, and plot lines provides a perfect background for the short story that follows. It enriched my knowledge of authors I was familiar with and helped me understand new authors. I have, through this book, found several new writers of the genre to read their full length novels. A definate "must read".

This book gives a brief introduction to each of the thirty+ writers. I expected it to be more of a horror/crime story, but it wasn't disappointing..... Each of the stories are more of a crime or military thriller. Some of the authors tied in current events like the war in Iraq, making you think about the stories being factual. It was an excellent book. I think anyone into thrillers will love this.....

Because it had a James Patterson introduction I figured it would be a good one to read. I was not disappointed and liked the short story theme as I could read a story in a manner of minutes. Scary---does not disappoint.

I don't normally read short stories, but most of these were pretty good.

A collection of 30 short thrillers by some authors I've been reading for years and some I'd never heard of before this book.

The stories were an interesting variety from pirates and Ben Franklin to origin stories of now famous characters.

The three I enjoyed the most were Epitaph, Kowalski's in Love and The Tuesday Club.

I got this book second-hand because it has an early Jack Reacher story in it by Lee Child. The Reacher story is the first in the collection entitled "James Penney's New Identity." The story is about a Vietnam vet named Penney who gets laid off from his job because, for one reason, he had missed work due to post-traumatic shock syndrome. After leaving his job, he goes home and burns down his house and takes off in his new Firebird before it can be repossessed. Well, the fire burns down some neighbors houses as well so he is a wanted man for arson. Along the way, his car is stolen and he is eventually picked up by Reacher who at the time is still an MP in the Army. Reacher ends up providing him with a new identity and there is a nice little twist at the end. I'm a big fan of Child and Reacher so I'm glad I had a chance to read this story even though Reacher has a relatively minor part in it.

Large print edition.

"THRILLER, an anthology of short fiction...all contributions are from members of the International Thriller Writers Organization...
In concept and execution, it's nothing less than perfect: 30 stories from 32 authors, the majority of which has never seen publication before. Together, they create an exhaustive compendium of the breadth and range of the subject matter and the depth of literary talent with which the genre is presently blessed." amazon
