This is the first Costeloe book I've read and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Rita and Rosie Stevens are only nine and five years old when their widowed mother marries a violent bully, has a baby boy by him and is "persuaded" to put the girls into an orphanage. Bad choices and unforeseen circumstances ensue, but thoughout, Rita and her strength carry on. I look forward to reading another book by this author.
