Another good entry in the Swagger series from Hunter. This one provides the back story to Swagger's tour in Viet Nam and the death of his spotter, Donny Fenn. Hunter throws in a lot of twists and turns and of course, all is not as it seems in how and why Fenn was killed. The book includes the story of Fenn's days as a marine in Washington D.C. during the peace movements of 1971 and how he ends up on his second tour of duty in Nam. A Russian sniper is involved in his killing and years later the same sniper is after Swagger (or is he after something else?). Another high recommendation for Hunter.
If you haven't read Stephen Hunter, you are missing one of the best adventure writers around. He is a Pulitzer Prize-winning movie critic for the Washington Post, and his writing is powerful. He has written many books about Bob Lee Swagger, and his father, Earle, two rugged individuals who face one mysterious adventure after another.
A riveting, page turning, compellingly entertaining saga that slams the reader through its pages with the trajectory of a speeding bullet. For readers who love men and women of honor, courage and brains, Hunter hits the bull's-eye. In the flat-out, full-bore world of deadly action prose, Hunter stands above and beyond the pack.
Superb novel of worlds's best sniper Bob "The Nailer" Swagger.
Bob Lee Swagger is a classic fiction hero! Exciting adventure story...
Excellent read, hard to put down. All of Hunter's books have a tie to each other, even though each is a stand alone story. It is worth the effort to read in sequence.
An exciting thriller with politics and war thrown in. Very quick and impressive read.
Excellent, Bob Lee Swagger is a fabulous character. Honor, duty, love and all too human.
Intense, good complex plot
This is definitely a man's book. I love thrillers, but I wasn't able to get into this book. I stopped after a few chapters. I gave it to my son. I'm sure he will like it.
Another great book in the series of Bob "the Nailer" Swagger.
Another excellent sniper Bob Lee Swagger book! The reader is taken back in time to the Vietnam war with Bob and his Sighter, Bobby. Sniper-on-sniper fighting takes place, and we're even taken into the thoughts and emotions of these heros. My only question is that the book ends with Bob and his family settling down in Arizona, with Bob being done with the sniper life for good. Does that mean no more books for us fans? I sure hope not!
THE KILLER LIES IN WAIT, SILENTLY WATCHING AS A MAN & HIS FAMILY RIDE HORSES UNDER THE SUN IN IDAHO. SUDDENLY THE SHOT RINGS OUT. A WOMEN SCREAMS. HORSE HOOVES THUNDER.
