I absolutely loved this book! First in the new series and a great first book. Easy to get to know the characters, lots of action and a real page turner. It is a cozy, and reminds me alot of John Lambs' "Teddy Bear Mysteries." Alot of suspects and speculation throughout, and I did not know who did it until the end. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

First Line: It was right after the Fourth of July parade that follows the crowning of the new Miss Duck when Mildred Mason tapped me on the shoulder and sighed.
Duck, North Carolina is a small town on the Outer Banks. Its mayor, Dae O'Donnell, is the person everyone in town wants to see when they've lost something. If they keep their minds focused on what they've lost, all Dae has to do is touch them, and she knows where the item is.
Dae wears many hats in Duck: mayor, ceremonial ribbon cutter, UPS contact, finder of lost stuff, and owner of Missing Pieces-- a shop in which she sells treasures she's found on her travels. (That is, she'll sell everyone the run-of-the-mill tourist souvenirs, but if you want one of her special treasures, you'd better hope she likes the cut of your jib.)
Little does Dae know, but helping Mildred Mason find her watch leads her right into a murder investigation. The police seem to think they have the case wrapped up, but Dae knows the folks living in her small town. She soon persuades neighbor (and retired FBI agent) Kevin Brickman to stop remodeling the Blue Whale Inn so he can help her find the real killer.
I'd figured out most of the puzzle pieces in this book, but the enjoyment wasn't to be found in the puzzle as much as it was in the "ride". The setting of the Outer Banks and the small town of Duck was extremely well done, but I loved some of the characters even more than I did the setting.
Dae was the best of the lot. Her ability (which I wish I had) wasn't overused, and I loved the way she operated her business. Her willingness to go out on a limb for the people she's known all her life is admirable, and it says a lot for her intelligence that, when she discovers her neighbor is a former FBI agent, she goes to him for help.
However, there were two characters I could have done without. I've said before that one character type in a cozy mystery that rubs my fur the wrong way is the Disapproving Mother. A Timely Vision had two more: the Stupid Wannabe Boyfriend and the Man Hungry Best Friend.
Tim proposes to Dae just about every month without fail. She turns him down without fail-- and she doesn't do it in a coy manner that would give him hope. The man is stupid because (1) he can't figure out that no means NO, and (2) he thinks his-- cough, choke-- irresistibility will finally wear her down.
Dae's friend, Shayla, must be the type who'd almost kill to have "Mrs." in front of her name. (In fact for a few pages I harbored hope that she was the killer.) Shayla will throw herself at any eligible male-- especially if he shows any interest in Dae. Both Tim and Shayla could disappear in the next book in the series and I wouldn't miss them at all.
I do intend to continue reading this series. Even though my fur got all tangled with two of the characters, there's too much potential here for me to miss seeing what happens next in good old Duck.

I enjoyed this book. There are some things that are very common in cozies these days that get a bit tiresome for me. You see, I'm a happily married man who has been with his amazing wife for 38 years. So why do so many cozies feature divorced women who escaped from lunatic, control-freak beasts of ex-husbands? Yeah, that happens, but not all the time! (I also wonder why so many of these books happen in the South.)
So what about THIS book? It's a good one. The main character is not perfect, but she's interesting. She also does not do anything at the end to put herself in jeopardy while the reader thinks to him/herself, "Oh, come on! No one would do that."
Her talent of finding things is played just right. It isn't the focus of the book and it is just part of her identity. It's natural.
It also has a lot of interesting things that are fun to look forward to in the next book, while still leaving you satisfied at the end of this one.

It was a decent story. I liked the "power" that the heroine, Dae, had and I liked the setting. I was anxious to find out exactly what happened, but wasn't overly thrilled with the solution.

A friend passed this one on and I almost didn't read it the plot seemed tired. I'm glad I did get to it though, the characters are well fleshed out during the course of the book. I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series.

This read was so much more than i had anticipated. I thought it would be a "little fluff" for me to unwind between some deep books i'd read. It was so enjoyable and not all that fluffy. I love the town, the "people" and the concept of the story. This read offers fun, and a bit of romance, "nothing mushy", drama and murder and a town Mayor (Duck, North Carolina) that has the ability to find things by touching someone, so the whole book is based on Dae O'Donnell, the mayor who has many abilities and owns "Missing Pieces" shop. You will love her and her Grandnpa, they both have spunk. This is the first in the series and i am truely searching for the next one.

The writing was extremely well-done. I could clearly picture the town, its people and the ocean. The mystery was also well-done. But I really never connected with Dae. The authors didn't seem give any reason to sympathize with her. But overall, a good book.

I enjoyed this book even though I figured out "whodunit"......Dae, the mayor is a likable character with a special gift....enter the new mysterious man to town......I am usually not a fan of books with a paranormal theme , I will be reading the next in the series.
I always enjoy reading local books. The authors for this series live about 40 miles from me and write another series set in my hometown. The mayor of Duck, NC has a gift for finding lost items. Things get a little dicey when she locates a missing elderly woman. Good characters and a good read. 3.5 stars
Enjoyable "cozy" mystery. Likable characters in an appealing setting. I'm not particularly given to believing in the idea of "seeing" missing objects. Reads very quickly.

Very good beginning to this series. Introduction to people makes it an easy start and is just enough different than most cozies to be great fun. Want to get to know the characters more as time goes on. Good, fun read.
This was anew series for me and I find that it is well don and a fast read..It is very entertaining.
Everybody knows everybody small coast town complete with ghosts, new man in town sparking jealousy among the residents, excentrics and a mayor with the ability to find lost things. Not to forget the turtles that need to be protected a murder or two and away you go. See if you can figure it out before the end.

I liked this first book in the series but felt as with a lot of cozies they are about a 100 pages too long. It seems once you get passed mid way the story seems to drag on and on leading up way too slowly to the climax.
