What a fascinating book! I hated to put it down as every page had me interested. The names, the dates, the parties, the trips! Oh what a life they led. However, it was very obvious that Mr. Hearst was a jealous, possessive man who through trying to give her everything he thought she deserved was actually holding her back from her full potential. Marion Davies could have been a huge movie star as a commedienne, but instead everyone only remembers her as Mr. Hearst's mistress, if they know her name at all.
It was a fascinating look at the kind of life you could lead in the 20's and 30's with the right connections and a nealy unlimited amount of money.

Great book
I found it very interesting. I'd read some other books and seen documentaries on the silent film and then the 'talkies' came in. What a change for the movie business. Marion Davies didn't have a lot of talent and she knew it. She worked hard and was street smart. There are so many pics in this book. I definitely recommend this.

Interesting tidbits of life back then
This book was written many years ago but Miss Marian Davis had talent without the the push of William Randolph Hearst. She was 22 and beautiful young woman pursued by William Randolph Hearst 57 years old. They were together for 35 years. It is a fascinating story. But it was not all about money.Miss Davies, Marian loved William Randolph Hearst and vice versa. The attraction on her side was not just money. She bailed him out on one occasion. It is a very engrossing story and who can understand human nature.
