This book is HARDCORE BDSM. Contents include bondage, caning, piercing, whipping, and "animal projection". Those are just a few of the things in this book. This is not a dom/sub situation, its definitely owner and owned.
Hardcore bdsm does not bother me usually but this book was disturbing. Not only did I find the owner a sadist but there was hardly any sexual satisfaction for the "pet". I can handle/enjoy some really harsh treatment IF the person receiving it is getting satisfied by it. The slave here WAS satisfied by her situation and not only went into it willingly but she stayed willingly. Her needs were meet for all base purposes.
I only gave this book 3 stars because thats what I "felt" about it. But to be fair as far as hardcore bdsm stories/books go, this book was definitely 5 stars!

This story touched me on many levels. It's not ssc- it's a very well written story about a woman who doesn't feel safe unless she can turn over COMPLETE control to someone and about a man who wants a woman he can control completely. Some people are offended by it, but the obvious care and love between the two makes this book work for me. If you like your bdsm with more than the usual 'scenes' and 'master/slave' and 'safe sane consensual' stuff that you see everywhere, you'll like this. I actually had to put it down and walk away once in awhile because it affected me so much that I had to digest what I had read.
An earlier reviewer mentioned how the 'pet's' lack of sexual satisfaction made this story not as enjoyable for her. When I first read Jacob's earlier book- Owned and Owner- I was also bothered by the lack of pleasure allowed his 'pet'. It seems to be something she likes to write about. In this second book, I got that even her not being allowed pleasure made her feel cared for. That he would want to try and test her to such extremes made her feel his love. My favorite line in the whole book was his response to her anxiety about what he was turning her into- he said " I would never turn you into something I would despise." I actually gasped at that because I knew it was what she needed to hear to be able to trust him implicitly.
While this is not something I would desire in my own life, I loved reading about Maia and Anders. To me, their story was romantic, violent, debasing, humiliating, and frustrating. But most of all, it was fascinating.

This was the most distasteful book I have ever read. It was so disturbing and perverse that I could not finish it. I don't understand why anyone would want to be treated less than human. I felt there was something seriously wrong with Maia to allow Anders to treat her that way.

The humiliation, debasement, degradation and mutilation Maia endured were disgusting. Anders treated her like and animal and I never felt he cared for her at all. If you get off on treating another human being or an animal this way then there is something mentally wrong with you. You can call it power exchange if you want. The book made it sound that that Maia and Anders had a relationship and I just could not see it. It seemed that Anders could not decide whether he wanted her to be his dog or his pony. He takes her for a walk like a dog and also has her pull a cart as a pony while he and his also screwed up friends were in the cart.
The book made it sound that both wanted this relationship this way. Well our prisons are full with people who wanted, needed and were born feeling this way.
As far as I am concerned Maia would have benefited more from psychiatric care then allowing Anders to use her for his sadistic outlet.
