THE WORLD OF ADULT FANTASY
For as long as man has had an imagination he has woven heroic images to fascinate, impess, terrify, enthrall, enchange: when the world was very young, the stories were "real"--as real as the lamps that lit the night in the vast, fixed globe above a flat world, as reas as the demons, gods, fairies, giants & other powers that filled the known universe.
Lin Carter's book is an enchanted tour of the heroic sagas, the epic myths, the great tales that lived through time to become a source & inspiration to our own century's most magnificent teller of tales--J.R.R. Tolkien.

I enjoyed this book, although it is very outdated. This book discusses many works which were influential to J.R.R. Tolkien, and piqued my interest in reading classic literature.
Really increased my enjoyment of the Lord of the Rings. Highly recommended.
