Tortured for Christ is the true story of & by the founder of the Voice of the Matyrs Richard Wurmbrand. Richard Wurmbrand was a Romanian pastor who spent 14 years in Communist prisons, because he refused to stop preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ in the Underground Church.
Mr. Wurmbrand & his fellow Christian prisoners endured months of solitary confinement, starvation, horrible physical tortures, brain-washing and mental horrors beyond your wildest imagination. One man even had his own son beat to death right in front of him. It really opened my eyes to read of these horrors that happened and are still happening in some parts of the world to this day! Before reading this book I had no idea that these horrors happened for things as small as just owning a Holy Bible. Color me naive! It really made me feel blessed to live in America.
Politics aside, this is a story of a tenacious and enduring love for Jesus. Mr. Wurmbrand was a Christian in every sense of the word. He lived to spread the gospel and to help other tortured people. He truly lived a Christlike life. He speaks in the book of his love for his tormentors and he is genuinely sincere. I believe that every Christian and non-Christian should read Tortured for Christ. Even non-Christians, I'm sure would appreciate Mr. Wurmbrands sense of character and his sincere love for his tormentors. I'd recommend this book to anyone!

This is an incredibly thought provoking book, especially for Christians. Tortured for Christ is not a long book, but it is packed with information that is both appalling and humbling. One thing I liked was that it ended with a description of several different ways we can help those who are suffering. After reading this book, I promptly bought five more books to give away.

every believer must read this book! a look at what true christianity is in the rest of the world!
Published 1968. Eastern European Pastor Richard Wurmbrand suffered greatly under the Communists during the cold war. In this volume he gives an account of the suffering and testimony of the Underground Church in countries behind the Iron Curtain.
This is an excellent true account of what Mr. Wurmbrand went through in Communist Prisons for his faith. Every Christian should read this.
I've read this book and was fortunate enough to actually meet Mr. Wurmbrand and his wife. They were just an AMAZING, inspiring, peaceful, loving couple. He was also a wonderful speaker.. I think the book will inspire the reader to bravery, strength, hope, faith and most of all love.
This is the story of the founder of Voice of the Martyrs.
What a testimony of strength and endurance for Christ. Richard Wurmbrand suffered years of torture in prison while living in Romania and Russia. He speaks of the many million of Christians who were killed under the reign of atheistic communism. He and his wife both were two people who got out alive. He urges Free Christians to be able to help those who are a part of our body of Christ and to support the martyrs (or "witnesses" as it's translated). Excellent book, though it is a bit short, he speaks about the yearning of the communists he met, the fear and secret police who ruled over the churches and pastors/priests, and those who stood up for their faith though they were being brainwashed.
all i can say is Richard Wurmbrand is an amazing person and i hope to one day be as faithful in my christian walk as he has been.
Wow!! I hardly know what to say about this book. It is not an easy read. It took my breath away by bringing Christian persecution so close to home. These are real people who represent what is actually happening around the world and the ultimate sacrifices so many men and women make to spread the word of God.
A book that will drive you absolutely krazy! It tells the story of Richard Wurmbrand, a Romanian pastor that faced 24 years of imprisonment and torture in Communist prisons only because he wanted to spread the Word of our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ. It is a non fiction book about the life of this pastor and many other Christians. It also has many pictures of underground churches and martyrs. God bless! To God all the glory!
very stirring.
The true story of Richard Wurmbrand who was tortured for fourteen years because of his faith.
What a Powerful book that will really make you realize what is going on in other parts of the world. It's made a huge impact on me. I like the fact that this book encourages you to make a difference and gives you ways on how to make a difference.
I have not yet read this but I have another copy awaiting me.
