The basis of the story is fairly simple: in order to break a pact made with the devil 1,000 years ago by an ancestor, a family must locate 4 pieces of an ancient holy icon. The 1st piece was located in the 1st book of the series, and the hunt is on for the 2nd piece in this installment. While the story line has its merits (and screams "Sequels!"), the writing is atrocious. It seems like the writer is in such a hurry to get to the end of the book that she can't be bothered to write whole sentences. (Or complete ideas, for that matter.) There are no real surprises here - just standard stuff that might have been better had there been some apparent effort put into it.

2nd in wonderful new series. This is Rurik's tale. Working to break his family's pact with the devil he is teamed up with (not that he minds) Tasya. She is the woman he loves & if he can keep her alive & find the icon needed she can help break the pact. Lots of action in this one. A lot more told about the whole story as well. Looking forward to the next.
I've read this entire series now and I've loved every one of them. This book is captivating. I loved the conflict between the main characters and the twists the story took. I couldn't wait to pick up the next one when I finished this! Loved it!

ok, the second in the series just wasn't great. I am really surprised because normally i love Dodd's books. It just didn't do it for me. But, *sigh* I will still read the next one...
