The basis of the story is fairly simple: in order to break a pact made with the devil 1,000 years ago by an ancestor, a family must locate 4 pieces of an ancient holy icon. The 1st piece was located in the 1st book of the series, and the hunt is on for the 2nd piece in this installment. While the story line has its merits (and screams "Sequels!"), the writing is atrocious. It seems like the writer is in such a hurry to get to the end of the book that she can't be bothered to write whole sentences. (Or complete ideas, for that matter.) There are no real surprises here - just standard stuff that might have been better had there been some apparent effort put into it.

2nd in wonderful new series. This is Rurik's tale. Working to break his family's pact with the devil he is teamed up with (not that he minds) Tasya. She is the woman he loves & if he can keep her alive & find the icon needed she can help break the pact. Lots of action in this one. A lot more told about the whole story as well. Looking forward to the next.
I've read this entire series now and I've loved every one of them. This book is captivating. I loved the conflict between the main characters and the twists the story took. I couldn't wait to pick up the next one when I finished this! Loved it!

ok, the second in the series just wasn't great. I am really surprised because normally i love Dodd's books. It just didn't do it for me. But, *sigh* I will still read the next one...

This is the second book in Dodd's Darkness Chosen series. I thought it was a very good book, although I found that I enjoyed the first and 3rd books a lot better. Don't let this book discourage you from reading further, because it will only get better.

Love this series, Christina Dodd has really hit a winner with this series for me. I Guess I would like to believe in families still having bonds. The series only gets better so read on!

A sexy continuation of the saga of Konstantine Wilder (nee Varinski) and his four children who try to break a 1000 year old pact with the devil to save their family and their father's life.
In this chapter we get to know Rurik, second eldest son, and Tasya the woman he loves. Both have secrets and pasts that are major obstacles to their relationship. As with the first book in the series, Scent of Darkness, Rurik and Tasya spend most of the story on the run. Rurik spends most of his time trying to convince Tasya to trust him, and this is mostly done by them having sex.
The biggest challenge for me in this book is that Rurik's alter ego is a hawk. I struggle with the sexiness of feathers. Dodd gives us proud, predatory changelings, but at the end of the day, warm and fuzzy trumps feathers and beaks. I know the human women don't really interact with the animals in a sexual way but I just had a hard time wrapping my mind around man/bird being as powerful or predatory or as alpha male as a man/wolf or man/panther. That said, it did work for the story and for Rurik's character.

Another paranormal romance hard to put down. Good plot and very likeable characters. Will look for more of this author's books.

Great book, lots of action!
Love Ms. Dodd's writing. Do not know of her earlier writing, but the Darkness Chosen series is excellent reading. I can actually feel the emotions of the characters.
This series is an easy fun read. The plot works well and the characters a interesting. I'll be happy to read the next two.
Christina Dodd has definitely hit it with this series! Characters have depth, passion and believeablity despite their obvious paranormal existence.
I couldnt finish this book. It was filled with corny lines, and blah banter. It was a real bore to read so I stopped half way through.
Great story! I even liked it better than bk 1.

Loved it! It was a great sequel I can not wait for the third! The story flowed had a mystery wrapped in a mystery! Loved the character development; much better than the first I will admit! This book is one of those 'Can't put it down' stories.

Second book in the series with brother Rurik. Interesting storyline.
It starts off all macho but of course the guy becomes love struck. This is the first of four in a set. Get all four to read on right after the other. Three brothers (shift changers) and a sister who isnt. Great set. im glad i got all four at once. Jany
