Wonderful new authors. The story is about Vampire's and werewolf's. I wasn't sure I would like it, but I ended up loving it. I went to the library to read their other two books. A great read .... that makes paranormal almost normal.

People on the street call the Thrall vampires. But they are not the undead of legend. They are more like parasites with a hive mentality. "Thrall" is their own term for the mind control they have on their human "Hosts" and the "Herds". The hive is ruled by a group of queens who control individual Hosts and the human Herds. The Thrall despise most humans, otherwise known as "Prey". There are very few "Not Prey" in the world. The Not Prey earned the respect of the queens by some drastic deed, such as killing one of the vampires. Hosts and Herds can't lie to Not Prey and the Queens have to treat them as an equal. So having the title "Not Prey" has wonderful advantages. However, Not Prey don't run, don't hide, and don't use guns or other distance weapons. If they do, they lose their status.

Kate Reilly is Not Prey. Six years ago the love of her life turned her over to the vampire Larry. Kate took Larry down and survived his bite only to discover that the Thrall's venom, mixed with her own natural psychic ability, has transformed her. Monica, a Thrall Queen, wants nothing more than to see Kate dead. But first, she has other plans for Kate.

Kate's new tenant, Tom Bishop, is a firefighter. He also happens to be lycanthrope (werewolf). Since the Werewolves and the Thrall are mortal enemies, having Tom around is very handy for Kate.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The authors have a new take on vampires, and it's quite interesting. They make them out to be parasites that lay eggs that will eventually destroy their host. It is quite a fascinating story, and I'm looking forward to reading the other two books that are out in the series to see what happens with Tom and Katie! I loved the fact that the story is set in Denver, I'll have to go looking for the locations described in the books, some I recognized, and others I didn't. A fun and recommended read.

I really enjoyed this story. I like their Web books better but this one was still really good. I liked Katie and she reminded me a bit of the old Anita Blake with her Catholic moral conflicts and depending on herself.

Starting out I really enjoyed Touch of Evil. It is a well well written with great characters and fun dialogue. But the story drove me NUTZ! I loved the first half, because of the fun characters and the great dialogue. But when they took us into the crux of the situation the story came off the rails - the tail started wagging the dog so to speak. It felt like they spent more time figuring out what they wanted to do than figuring out how to make it work.

I couldn't get into this book. It was too slow. I kept putting it down, then i'd pick it up again thinking it would get better. It never did.

I really enjoyed this one; new type of paranormal with excellent heroes & villainsm - neither are one-dimensional, so you can really get into the motivations for their actions.

Book Description
Kate Reilly has a hard time trusting people.

Six years ago, the love of her life turned her over to the vampire parasites who call themselves the Thrall. Katie survives the powerful bite of the master parasite only to discover that the Thralls venom, coupled with her own natural psychic ability, has transformed her. Now she is next in line to be the Thrall Queen--and each day might be her last as a human.

Tom, a handsome firefighter, arouses all of Katies dormant senses, but her heart shies away. After Dylans betrayal, how can she trust any maneven a seemingly perfect and terribly sexy werewolf?

Toms sincerity--and sex appeal--begins to wear down Katies defenses. But his increasingly insistent charm hides a potentially deadly secret: his werewolf pack is hiding the one person who can stop the Thrall from completing Katie's transformation into Queen--and they won't give her up.

This book was disappointing for me. It reminded me of another author who has done work about 'parasite vampires'. I liked that series much better.

Kate reminded me too much of a charater in another series. It just didnt satisfy my expectations.
