It is interesting and readable. Sometimes things were dragged out. There are about 7 chapters where you think "the next chapter will be the explosion" but the next chapter meanders on through other things.
Also the author's attitude to small town Canada was a little unnecessary in its harshness.

I wanted to read more about the Halifax harbor explosion during WWI and this had the information.
