A horribly researched, factually inaccurate book. I can't remember ever doing this before, but I quit reading it halfway through and actually threw it in the garbage rather than give it to someone else. Don't waste your time.

As usual for Robin Cook, I had a difficult time putting this book down. It grabs your attention and keeps it all the way until the last page.

Medical thriller about the dangers of the American meat industry and bacterial contamination such as E. coli. This thriller hits such a controversial issue head-on with a no-holds-barred approach. A good, scary read

Just how safe is America's meat supply? Recent health scares and new public awareness have made this one of today's most controversial subject - and the basis of this most startling and important novel. When a doctor's daughter becomes infected with E.coli, the widespread dangers of bacterial contamination are no longer a subject for debate, but a grim reality. In desperation, he is forced to follow the trail of ignorance and corruption from the tangled red-tape of the medical community to the highest levels of the powerful meat industry. It is an eye-opening thriller that every American should read.

Very interesting yet frightening subject matter. If everything in the book about the food/beef industry is true, it's a wonder people don't get sick more often.

I felt compassion for the characters in the story, but much of what Dr. Reggis did in attempt to expose the culprits seemed incredible. Who would risk their life and narrowly escape a hitman so many times?

Still a good read that I'd recommend.

I liked this story by Robin Cook. It was different from most of his books. It is quite disgusting and frightening to read about the beef industry. It makes me want to become a vegetarian.

This book is a grim, shocking tale of contamination in the meat industry. It is probably the most socially significant novel I have ever read. It really opened my eyes. Unfortunately, it will probably be a long time before I will get up the courage to eat another hamburger.

Coruption and ignorance at the top of the meat supply companies are responsible for an outbreak of e-coli. Mix of medicine and suspense.

This book is great, but definitely not for those of you who get nauseated by slaughterhouse descriptions. Given the recent meat recalls, I'd highly recommend this book to everyone, it's a fantastic fiction (that could really happen) novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat...and really make you re-consider eating that hamburger!!! It kind of reminds me a bit of "the jungle" only more exciting, and more relevant to today's society. The basic plot: Doctor takes daughter for hamburger, Daughter gets E-Coli and dies: doctor goes undercover at meat plant that manufactured the frozen hamburger patties and discovers the disgusting conditions and use of downer cows: Doctor's life is threatened by the owner of the packing facility and goes on the run, all while trying to expose the company. Really, it is truly fascinating! I highly recommend it.

Just when you thought it was safe to eat a hamburger again, Robin Cook--master of medical mysteries, deadly epidemics, and creepy comas--returns with an all too likely villain drawn right from current headlines: the American meat industry. If you've ever wondered where the E. coli bacteria comes from, and exactly how it can ravage the human body, destroying everything in its path, this is the book for you. As usual, Cook delivers solid information, well-researched medical arcana, and a scathing indictment of managed health care.
His protagonist, Kim Regis, is an all-too-typical ego-driven surgeon, whose arrogance and invulnerability set him up to be brought low by the deadly toxin that takes the life of his young daughter. Sparing no time and barely a paragraph to reflect on his loss, Regis goes right after the culprit, a meat-packing behemoth that brings dead and diseased animals to the slaughterhouse, breaking every health regulation in the book. The scenes set on the killing floor and in the boning rooms will make a vegetarian out of the most confirmed red-meat eater. Toxin is a heart-pounding thriller that hits very close to home.
