I ordered this book because I was intruiged by the "world-without-a-Superman" concept. Many versions of this concept have been done in comic books and graphic novels before, but this one seemed new to me: The alternate Earth created by Jeff Mariotte has no Superman, but it DOES have a Clark Kent! As I said, intruiging, right? On this Earth, three powerful and immortal sorcerors make a move in the 6th century to control the world, but they can't keep a certain spaceship from Krypton touching down in Kansas in the late 70s. So, they have to find another solution -- involving The Demon (Etrigan) and a nine-pointed star. It's a good concept, but the author weakens it with a lot of time travel and the inclusion of several "Western" guest-stars, such as Jonah Hex, Bat Lash, El Diablo and Scalphunter. Ultimately, the book felt like a college student's essay where he is assigned to write about one subject, and ends up using research and work from another class to pad it out. Great concept, weak ending.

Superman, The Phantom Stranger, Jason Blood, and Jonah Hex team up to fight three sorcerers from warping reality and destroying the earth
they know. Kind of wordy but a good read nonetheless.
