Memoirs which involve travel are intriguing to me and as long as Kidd discussed Greece and France, I enjoyed this book immensely. But there was far too much introspection, philosophy and examination of her relationship with her daughter which interrupted the lovely trips. Now this may be exactly what another reader loves about the book, but I found Kidd going in circles and re-visiting topics endlessly.

Reading this book did make me re-read "The Secret Life of Bees", something I rarely do. I don't think I'm giving too much away to say that Kidd found inspiration for that novel during the travels of this memoir. It made me see her novel in a new light.

I don't get why this book is so popular. I agree with the previous poster that there is way too much introspection and talk about the author's feelings and ailments. I thought this was going to be more of a travel memoir, and was a little disappointed.

Love to travel and have an adult daughter so thought this book would be ideal for me. Have to agree with other reviewers, Sue writes endlessly about her feelings of 'growing old' (at 50??) and Ann is depressed. I would have enjoyed more of their impressions of traveling and less of their whining. Couldn't finish it as I have way too many other exciting books waiting for my time and enjoyment.

I very much enjoyed Ann Kidd Taylor's portion of the book. Not so much Sue Monk Kidd's. Glad I read it though.

Loved this book! As other reviewers have said, it is part travel journal and partly an exploration of the mother-daughter relationship as each woman experiences transitions from one phase of life to another. Sue also talks at length about "The Secret Life of Bees," a story I enjoyed, which was conceived before this trip and researched during it. There is some spiritual exploration as well, during which Sue reevaluates her feelings about the Catholic Church and her commitment to it. Really engaging, and in the audio version, which I just posted, each author reads her section. Give it a chance!

What an interesting memoir! Beautifully written by a mother and daughter both navigating their separate but connected feminine lives while traveling to a variety of sacred feminine spaces in the world. What I enjoyed the most is how they opened to each other in the course of their personal discoveries.

Though I'm putting this back into the PBS world, it is because I feel inspired to share this same possibility of being with other women. Paying it forward.
