Canada is one of the beautifully diverse areas of the earth. Stretching three thousand miles across the northerly edges of the United States, it is a vastly different place than the USA. This book is a National Geographic book and so we expect high quality in its publication -- and we get it. The photography is of course wonderful, and in this book, the writing is exceptional as well. The author actually drove the entire width of Canada, visiting the places of which he writes, meeting the people, describing the history, working with the photographer. The book is not a travel guide in that the author does not particularly describe and discuss hotels and restaurants. I would call the book a travel companion, a book to take along on your own trip across Canada, to read what to see and where to visit.
