I haven't read Linda Howard in ages and I know she writes Romance/Suspense. Ha. This book WAS romance, but in no way it was suspenseful.

The two main characters Bo and Morgan were very likeable however the book was all about her dog! Now don't get me wrong, I LOVE dogs, I have two of them and they are very precious to our family. However this dog Trixie, a Golden Retriever was extra special. She could understand everything that was asked, she chased after a ball and when catching it, would "pose" with the ball and not move until you said "good girl". She even was able to tell time! Three quarters of the book was about the dog!

As for the drop of suspense......perhaps the last 10 pages when someone tried to kill Morgan who was hiding out would be called suspense, but it didn't even raise my blood pressure. It was over quickly as Morgan saved the day.

A happy ending was had by all.
GIVE ME A BREAK!

Quirky. This was a little different from other books of hers that I have read and I really enjoyed it. Morgan Yancy has a problem and hides out with his boss's used-to-be half-sister. She doesn't want Morgan to stay and Morgan doesn't want to stay, but the incentive is too strong on both sides. The best part of the story was Tricks, the dog.

This book is, without a doubt, the worst thing Ms. Howard has written. Too long, boring, little or no action, even the sex scenes were boring. As an animal lover, even I got sick of all the fawning she did over the dog in the story. Yes, the dog was smart (I have owned such a dog, or should I say, she owned me), but to say it over & over was just a drag.

This was my second read of "Troublemaker"; it's still as good as ever. Linda Howard rarely disappoints with her stories. Morgan Yancy, a member of an elite GO-team (Global Operations) has been targeted while he's stateside but no one knows why. Is there a mole in the operation? Is someone outside trying to kill GO-team members?

Morgan's boss, Mac, decides that to keep him safe and let him heal after being shot, Morgan needs to recuperate at the home of his ex-step-sister, Isabeau "Bo" Moran, the police chief of a small West Virginia town.

Bo is comfortable in her small-town life with her Golden Retriever, Tricks. Having a surprise houseguest upsets her routine and way of thinking about life, but the money her ex-step-brother offers her is too good to pass up. The couple lives in her home, a converted barn, where Morgan slowly recovers. All the while, Bo is dealing with small-town politics, working part-time as a technical writer, and taking Tricks for long walks.

Tricks tends to steal the show whenever she's mentioned. To say that the dog has a charming personality is an understatement. She's precocious and determined to get her way in all things. About the time Tricks is targeted in town during a homecoming parade, things come to a head for Morgan when the bad guys show up to finish him off.

This is a great book showcasing Howard's talent for story-telling.
