This is a wonderfully suspenseful book with a superb beginning that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go. I don't usually go in for the DC political scene but was told of this book (and how wonderful it was) from a non-reader friend. With his glowing review, I couldn't help but pick up the book that was so highly praised. I must agree, it is spectacular. You instantly identify with Mace Perry and love Roy Kingman. These two bond immediately and are inseparable through thick and thin. The adventures through the worst parts of DC are scary as hell and so real you actually feel the threat. There is no one single part to this book It is a whole cornicopia of players: cops, secret service (think FBI, CIA, NSA), lawyers and even one mega-rich dude with a robin hood complex, and don't forget Psycho, the crazed drug lord.
All in all, if you haven't read David Baldacci yet, this one is a terrific first book. He draws out the tension and dribbles out the clues to a mastermind plan of deceit and betrayal.

WOW! I really loved this book. It was a police procedural, legal thriller and murder mystery all in one. Lots of action and twists and turns. Great character development made me keep turning the pages. I hope the author turns this into a series. Library copy, so I can't post. If you wish list this book it is well worth the wait.

This book is tied with The Winner as my all time favorite! Baldacci is on top of his game with this one. The strength of the women characters is admirable. I cannot wait for the sequence to this series.

Another suspense-filled thriller from David Baldacci. Mace Perry, a former DC cop, has been released from prison, fulfilling her two-year sentence. She was set up and even her big sister, Chief Beth Perry, knows it but Mace was lucky to only get 2 years. She is bound and determined to find out who set her up and get her job back. Roy Kingman, a corporate attorney finds the dead body of a co-worker in the refrigerator and he and Mace, an unlikely pair, find out that there is more to the murder than a homeless guy gone crazy. It was a great book and I found it hard to put down.

The fact that I am a "CSI", "Criminal Minds" junky just may have influenced me a little but this book was a can't put it down kind of read. It truly keeps you guessing till the very end but the journey is filled with laughter, suspense, joy, sadness and empathy. I am now a fan of David Baldacci.

Way too long (at 600 pages) and the main male character's motivation for going along with Mace was lacking...as was characterization in general. The writing was good but damn, edit much?

I like Baldacci, I thought "Winner" moved faster and was great, but I really liked the characters and the storyline in this book. Also it had a really good ending. Loved it.
Ending is not what one expects. It becomes fast paced with a number of murder and people taking the fall.
All of David Baldacci's books are excellent. This one explores the struggle of a young cop in D.C. trying to regain her former position. The author keeps you wanting more from the first page.

Good plot. One of the things I like about Baldacci's work is, he dosen't take you across rivers and valleys to get to the next step in the plot. the storie(s) unfold and progress with rhythem unlike Dan Brown who's characters ramble and procrastinate and run on treasure hunts to find nothing to do with the plot.
If you love mysterys this is a great book to read. Mace Perry, is the main charter, who was a cop that was framed and sent to prision. Once she gets out, she is on a roll to solve a huge case, hoping to get back on the force.

Outstanding story about female heroines.
Mace Perry is a DC cop unjustly imprisoned and, after her release, hoping for exoneration and re-instatement to the force. In her corner are big sis Beth, the chief of police in DC, young lawyer Roy Kingman, and a wealthy philanthropist. Stacking the deck against her are mysterious government agents, several dead bodies, and Mona Danforth, a prosecutor whose "golden tresses oozed the scent of hairspray like blood from a finger cut."
Fast, enjoyable read, with clear writing (despite the unfortunate but amusing simile quoted above). And while the reader does have to suspend disbelief at times, it's nowhere near the level of Baldacci's last book, First Family.

Another excellent Baldacci novel. You really get to know his characters, and this was a real page-turner for me. Ending was just right - didn't seemed rushed like some authors tend to do.
Baldacci is a fine writer, keeping your attention from page 1. With David, as with other writers, such as Clive Cussler, you sometimes just have to suspend belief and ride with the fantasy. Or is he writing fantasy? Is what he writes about here what is really happening in Washington in our fight against terrorism? That is an answer we probably will not know in our lifetime. Still and all, it is a good story--not one of his best, but a good story.
I really enjoyed this one. I look forward to new Baldacci books & this one did not disappoint. I loved the characters. It's hard to put down & grabs you from the first page. A real page turner. Enjoy it! I certainly did.

I agree with everyone who has reviewed this book on Paperback Swap thus far. I totally loved this storyline. I have read most of David Baldacci's novels and this one is, by far, one of his best works. It was well thought out and well written and the character development made it an interesting, intriguing and fantastic read. It was one of those 'I couldn't put it down' tales; which are the best. True Blue is hard to beat and one of his best novels to date. Sidenote, I did not like the cheezy ending last paragraph. Too much of a chick flick feeling.
For me this was not one of the best Baldacci has written. I was a bit disappointed.

Not a bad book at all, but I was disappointed in the ending....took it from a Really Like It to a Like It....prob a realistic outcome, but not a right outcome.
as usual a great thriller from Baldacci. Some far fetched parts that make it truly fiction, but some other parts that make you go hmmm. Certainly worth reading.

The repeat and the descriptions are just too numerous to tell so here's a couple--once you learn why Mace was in prison that is enough but yet it is repeated again and again until you are just sick of it, along with the woman that was killed and fell out of the refrigerator when opened, once it's told is enough but it is repeated over and over and it just gets boring, then you have all the unnecessary descriptions, okay we know she has a Ducati motorcycle but why keep repeating it, and why do we need to know every stitch of clothing they wear? not necessary to the story, and why do we need to know what they put in their mouth bite by bite? again not necessary!
I'm not saying don't read this book but I am saying beware of the all the useless pages of the above.
