I thought this book was a little bit shallow. By that I mean there was potential for some really thought provoking mother/daughter stuff and relationships and life and coming of age, etc. But it never went below the surface. I was also very annoyed with the daughter, Marina, who kept leaving her mother to venture around Florence on her own while she had a tryst. If my mom paid for us to go to Italy for 2 weeks I wouldn't leave her every day to hang out with my lover! Rude. There was also a strange amount of discussion about the food. Each meal it was discussed what they were eating, like the story was actually a food journal of their trip.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I think it was really eye opening for me since I can relate to the characters. The details of everything the mother saw on her vacation was wonderful.
Very cute story about a Mom and her 20 something daughter who travel to Italy together. The daughter learns to loosen up some and enjoy herself, maybe a bit too much with the local flavor. I like how the ending was not as one may think....
