There hasn't been one book of LaVyrle Spencers that I haven't enjoyed immensely. And I mean, immensely. Her books are some of the most romantic I've ever read. They take you away into such a fun place, you can't put the book down.

This story starts off in 1837. It's about Laura, Rye & Dan who were childhood friends & grew closer into adulthood. Laura & Rye had a magical connection, married and soon after he left on a whaling ship to try & earn their fortune. However, fate stepped in, his ship went down, and as everyone assumed, with him on it. 5 years later, with a son Rye never knew, married to his best friend Dan who saw her through the toughest times in her life, Rye returns and walks into a house that was once his & a woman he thought was still his wife. Not to mention the son he didn't know existed, but who's now calling another man papa. Rye's returned, but lost everything, including his house & it's belongings as he finds out that legally Laura's married to Dan. But with a love so very strong, Laura & Rye begin a journey, not knowing where it will leave all 4 of them & no one wanting to hurt the other.

I enjoyed this book for so many reasons, interesting & likable characters, memorable love story, great friendships and humor. It was also interesting to read about what it was like to live in Nantucket in the 1800's with the whaling industry & all of the other sorts of things like horse & carriage rides, making homemade candles & wearing those hideous corsets.

If you are looking for a love story, I'll guarentee you this one will not let you down

Five long years ago, lovely Laura Dalton waited on the bleak Nantucket shore for the day her beloved husband Rye would return...and then she learned his ship was lost at sea.
Only Dan, Rye's closest friend, was a shining beacon to light the dark hours...a father to her baby...a husband to a grateful widow.
But who could foretell that a wind-roughened sailor with sun-bleached hair would anchor again in a port that had given him up to the briny deep? That he would walk down a scallop-shell path toward the familiar gray clapboard?
He stands at the doorway, vowing he will have her. And Laura knows that even though she gave herself to another, her heart still belongs to him.
For Rye is home again...

This is one of my all-time favorite LaVryle Spencer books. It's amazing, heart-tugging, emotional right from the beginning. She pulls you right in to her stories with descriptions so good you feel as if you've been to Nantucket Island in the 1800's. It's brilliant and impossible to put down. A *great* story, one to read over and over again.

One of THE BEST historical romances I've ever read. One of my top 10 favorites out of thousands, literally.
Touching, brilliantly written, heart-rending story of Rye Dalton, lost at sea and believed dead for 5 long years is finally able to return home to Nantucket in 1837 to find his wife has remarried--to his best friend Dan. This story will capture your heart like no other. I've read it dozens of times and it hits me and makes me cry each and every time.

An absolute must-read for anyone who loves great historical romances.
