Another thought-provoking, true story from the remarkable teacher, Torey Hayden. Well, three stories, actually, each one perfectly fascinating in its own way.

Torey Hayden is a very special teacher. She takes us into the world of troubled children, from classroom to hospital ward, to life. We meet the children, and then we learn about their lives and Ms. Haydens role in them.
The children in this particular book suffer different forms of silence, and the effects of that silence. Some of these stories are difficult to read, but Toreys handling of the topics is respectful and caring. She educates the reader just as she did each child, each family, and even other caregivers.
Torey Hayden breaks our heart with these children and the tragedy of their young lives, but then she heals us, just as she does them. Torey, her book, and her children will stay with you.

this book tore at my soul
This time Torey tries to help two children--one of whom involves a bit of a mystery--and an elderly lady who has had a stroke.

Torey Hayden gives such insight into the children that she works with. This is another of Torey's stories that doesn't disappoint.

Very good read, as are all of her books. Definitely a tear-jerker, but it also gives so much hope.

I love every single one of her books. This time, I think I was able to see and feel more of the frustration and sadness that one would likely feel those situations, along with the joy.
