Fans of Woods's ex-cop turned lawyer, Stone Barrington, will not be disappointed in this latest entry in the series. This time out, Stone becomes involved with a loud-talking Texan improbably named Billy Bob Barnstormer. It isn't long before Stone regrets ever being introduced to Billy Bob, especially when he leaves a dead body in Stone's guest room. But that is only the beginning of a tale that finds Stone, along with his best friend, Dino Bacchetti, following a twisted trail as they attempt to capture Billy Bob, who, it turns out, is much more dangerous than Stone could ever have imagined.

You have to meet Stone Barrington if you haven't before - he's a great character. Totally self absorbed, great intuitive leaps that often land him in the middle of murder and mayhem. There's enough humor in the book to keep you going from page to page.

The slippery out-of-towner goes missing, and someone is found dead-in Stone's town house no less. Stone is now caught by a beautiful federal prosecutor and a love from his past, a con man with more aliases than hairs on his head, and a murder investigation that could ruin them all.
Really enjoyed this, it was a quick read. Stone Barrington has good guy charm. This has action, twists in the story and suspense A nice package.
Not one of his better ones, but still a good quick read.
As usual Stone Barrington is into trouble and has to work his way out with the aid of his ex-partner Dino. Very good book

This is a very easy reading mystery that keeps you in suspense and is entertaining 4 stars

Narrator Roberts slips comfortably into his performance, bringing a nice, down-to-earth quality to his portrayal of Stone. He is equally at home in his characterizations of Stone's recurring circle of friends, giving each a distinct voice and personality. Roberts's slightly over the top, good old boy portrayal of Billy Bob works well, and he nicely shifts his performance as the likable, backwoods-sounding Texan changes and his true sociopathic tendencies rise to the surface.
Stumbling across a Stone Barrington book I haven't read is like running into an old friend that you haven't seen in awhile. Always a nice surprise...

I love the Stone Barrington books and this one did not let me down. Another mystery with some romance and sex thrown in.

I was not impressed with this book. The storyline just went along, nothing real exciting or out of the ordinary. Just when the drama began to build, it seemed like the bottom must have fell out of Mr. Woods thoughts, because it was hum-drum.
If you are looking for a book to read, this one is fine. If you are looking for lots of excitement and a great storyline, this isn't the one for you.

I hadn't read Stuart Woods before. I'm convinced. Has all the story telling twists and whip-smart banter one could ask for. The Manhattan cop turned suave lawyer chasing down a briliant southern flim-flam man. The characters are well developed and not typical stock! So Billy-Bob, a filthy rich smooth talkin Texan, enters the picture and what develops is just great.
Scott Barrington finds that you brtter not judge other people until have all the facts. A very good crime and sex romp.

A quick read -- with crime and a sexy plot to boot.

GREAT! Another Stone Barrington teriffic adventure. Stuart Woods can't write these books fast enough for me.
Against his better judgement, Stone Barrington invites a new client to be his houseguest while in town. A lady friend of the client, Billy Bob Barnstormer, ends up dead in Stone's guest room and Billy Bob is nowhere to be found. It looks as though Stone will be a suspect in the murder, but as it turns out, that is the least of his problems. Billy Bob is a smooth talking Texas con man and he is out to ruin Stone and is always just one step ahead of Stone. Fast-moving and full of surprises!
The newest Stone Barrington novel. He's back on his home turf with the usual crime, sex and action. A new client leads to a roller coaster ride for Stone, Dino, Lance and a few new friends. Oh yeah....Arrington returns and Stone finds out a long awaited secret.
