This is a great bedtime story read for young children. I read it to mine every night before bed and then as they got older and could read, they were able to read it by themselves.
This distinguished bunny gentleman and his affection for children, his vital imagination and his enthusiasm for living are utterly captivating to kids. At least they were for mine. Now that my little 5-year-old girl and I have exhausted the stories in print, she begs me make up new ones every Saturday morning. Her favorites so far: 'Uncle Wiggly and the Statue That Came Alive,' and 'Uncle Wiggly and the Pirate Raccoons' (neither of which is available in print, since, as I indicated, I made them up). Suffice to say that the Wiggly sensibility is unremittingly positive. Its prime tenets: Generosity and self-sacrifice; solving problems through innovative thinking; underscoring the dignity of each individual; believing only the *best* about everyone (including the Harum Scarum Bear), and going through the day with a mischievous smile and a bounce in one's step.

Uncle Wiggily is one of the most popular and enduring characters in American literature. A cheerful "bunny rabbit gentleman" with a wonderful knack for setting things right, he has been a reassuring friend to millions of children since early in the century. Uncle Wiggily's amusing stories speak to readers about familiar experiences, and feature a lively cast of children and animal characters: Toodle and Noodle Flat-Tail, two playful beavers; Nurse Jane Fuzzy Wuzzy, Uncle Wiggily's loyal muskrat housekeeper; Stubby Toes, the little boy who is helped by a sure-footed rabbit named Baby Bunty; Grandpa Goosey Gander; the Kite Boy; and many others. Full of charm, warmth, and old-fashioned fun.

Great gift book.
