The story was ok, not great. It seems the author is running out of ideas, since she basically had to create an alternate reality to keep the story running. The best part of the whole thing came in the last chapter.

If you have had great success with a series that is light, sassy, and funny, why the Hell (pun intended!) would you completely change gears? Obviously, a giant stake through the heart of your fans!
MJD - Don't even bother to write #10 - this book was such a betrayal, I can't even imagine EVER being interested in reading another MJD book. I'm done.

This book was a terrible disappointment. I HATED it. It's as if a bitter, different person wrote it. I had to re-read the last chapter, hoping I misunderstood, and was stunned by how you ended it. I hope that was your finale, cuz, I just dropped this series from my wish list.

This was my least favorite book of the series. All the others I read in a day, this one took over a week as I really had to push myself to read it. I am REALLY hoping book 10 is better!
The time traveling was odd, the story line not what I've come to expect. It's getting two stars only because I enjoy Davidson's writing. I don't know how I feel about the book of the dead being written by Betsy and being made from Eric's skin. Blah.
Of *all* MaryJanice Davidson's novels, this is my least favorite. The author appears bereft of ideas, so has resorted to a time-travel induced alternate universe. If this were a television series, I'd pinpoint this as when it "jumped the shark."
Also, why write an epilogue when the book isn't the last in the series? To me, it didn't add any value to the story and actually dissuaded me from purchasing any more novels in this series.

This book sees both Betsy, Queen of the Vampires and her half sister Laura, the anticrist grow up quite a bit. It will not be like the previous books in that the shift is to focus on Hell and Laura's issues. The second half of the book involves Laura's education towards taking over Hell one day and time travel excercizes that also answer a lot of the questions never answered about Sinclair and Tina's past. It can be confusing to read because each chapter is in a different time reference and sometimes in a future or past Betsy's persona. Worth getting through though because the next book hints at a sinister plot to kill Betsy and Sinclair. Betsy decides not to kill herself to save Sinclair in the future from future self. Some will be disappointed that it is not the brainless drivel of Betsy trying to ignore her situation, but there is lots of humor and being from Minnesota some hysterical (not historical) comments that I will be quoting to my sister.
This one was one of my favorites so far! I read the book in less than 2 days (I have to work too lol). I am so eager for the next book it is almost killing me! Finally saw a different side to Betsy - she's finally using her brain! Laura is getting scarier though and I have a feeling I know who followed them back (can't spoil that for you!). July cannot get here soon enough! I have to admit, I kinda forced myself through the first 4 books or so, but I love this series now. MJD - you are doing an excellent job! Keep it up!
I don't get all the bad reviews about this book! Yes, it was darker humor than the other books, but I liked it - and what a twist at the end! I am anxiously awaiting the final book in the series! I sure hope the "Future isn't set"
This was my least favorite Queen Betsy novel. It had an unbelievably slow storyline and was confusing at times. If I hadn't gotten the next book in the series as a Christmas gift I probably would have stopped purchasing books in this series, that's how disappointing the last few have been with this one icing the cake. The least page didn't disappoint but you've got to read 268 pages of "blah" first.
