Full of foreboding. Emotionally rich.

I could not stop reading this book. It was clear soon after the beginning that it would not end well, but the particular way it did not end well was very surprising and full of moral and emotional lessons. Very well executed.

"Under the Influence" begins with a DUI and continues...and continues.... under the influence of a wealthy, controlling couple. If this had not been Maynard, I would have put the book down in the early stages, unfortunately I did not. Overwrought and unrelentingly depressing hours which I will never get back. I know, should be one star, but I did finish the book.
