What a dumb stupid ridiculous poorly written book!
This goes on my 'one of the worst' ever written and Durrant goes on my 'don't bother' list of authors!

Reading the book's blurb, I was eager to get my hands on this one. Sad to say, it did not quite live up to my expectations.
Blurb .. Gaby Mortimer is the woman who has it all.
Hmmm.. that's not how I see it. Yes, she's successful in her work. Yes, she has a husband, but it is soon apparent that he's got another life going on.
One day, while out walking, she comes across the body of a young woman. She finds herself the prime suspect. She seems to take the whole investigation as a joke. Even her husband doesn't seem to take it seriously.
Blurb .. Full of twists and turns, this is a dark and suspenseful psychological thriller that will make you second guess everything.
Yes, there were twists and turns. Dark and suspenseful? Not in my opinion. Second guess? No, not really.
I didn't like the characters at all. The plot was a good one .... but it didn't seem to develop in a way that would actually be suspenseful.

I really don't care for British mysteries. They are hard for me to follow with all the different terms and too much description. I really had a hard time getting into this book. The first part of the book was going sooo slow due to all the wordiness of the author. I almost gave up on this book, but I'm glad I didn't. It really took off towards the middle of the book and had a unique surprise ending that I did not see coming.
*SPOILER*
Durrant has done exactly what an author should do if she never wants a reader to pick up another of her novels. The first 280 pages are lies. She found a body, it's tormenting her, she has no idea who could have done such a thing, there's a killer on the loose, blah blah blah. On page 281, we find out it was actually her all along. The story could have been woven so much better. More intricately. More smoothly. The abrupt admission on page 281 just made me want to throw the book down... it ruined the whole story for me.
