Overall good story. It's a historical romance with slight fantasy aspects. The heroine can communicate with animals. The two problems I had with the book were: 1) too long; it could have done better with about 50 or so less pages and 2) the misunderstandings between the h/h took forever to resolve.

Great slighty new author. A series of the Wild. A woman disguised as a boy guarding a legendary forest. a battered warrior whose family has been murdered they clash together in a stubborn will. AWESOME BOOK and SERIES

If you like a strong heroine and a strong but basically nice hero, this book is not for you. The hero, for a majority of the book, is a bully and abusive. The heroine is childish and a wimp. Most of the book is based on misunderstandings that could have easily been solved if they had just talked to each other. Reading this book reminded me of a soap opera with all the misunderstandings.
I actually read the fourth book in this series first and found the heroine in that book also childish and very much a wimp. I hope this doesn't continue because I made the mistake of buying the rest of the books in this series.

This is a good read.
Kalial, golden princess of a legendary forest, speaks with wild animals-and banishes all intruders. So when Ronin, a battered warrior, seeks refuge from his enemy in her woods, Kalial's forest men attack him. But as soon as he has a chance, Ronin takes their boy-leader hostage, little realizing that this small, fierce boy is actually a beautiful woman whose unbridled passion for life and love matches his own. Together, they will defy their enemies, soar to pinnacles of exquisite pleasure...and discover a love that will bind their souls forever.
