Christopher Tolkien finished up many of his father's, J.R.R. Tolkien's, works-in-progress; lost versions, variant forms, background material to existing stories, and excerpts that were cut from some stories before publication. These are 'unfinished tales,' fifty years of Tolkien.

There are some chapters that have a story in addition to the notes, but it is mostly written from Tolkien's notes on vaious historical background subjects. For example, the history of Galadriel and Celeborn.

If you are a fan of Tolkien you will really love this book. Gives many side stories and data for his trilogy.

The tales are somewhat esoteric, and a little dry if you're looking for amusement. However, the Tolkein devotee will enjoy the background and history. The tales flesh out a lot of historical references from the Lord of the Rings.
Nice collection of Tolkien's scraps. Some very interesting tidbits for the Middle-earth fanatic.
