This is a very cute story. Target age... 12 and up.. A quick read for adults. Anne McCaffrey is her typical wonderful storyteller.
An interesting new Universe from McCaffrey.
I loved this book and the arena of characters McCaffrey enters. It's a mix of fantasy and Star Trek. If you love Star Trek you will love this book. It's of an orphan girl who learns she has special powers and must harnass them. I simply loved this book!

I read the first 5 books of this series. I couldn't complete the series. They are saccharine sweet. I love Anne McCaffrey, but these are not her best work....not by a long shot.

This was a good book introducing me to the character Acorna. I liked how Calum, Gill and Rafik learned about her powers and how Acorna and her friends made a difference on Kezdet. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, Acorna's Quest.
I really enjoyed this book and will be getting the rest of the series so I can find out what happens!!
This was my first real read in the sci-fi genre... I really enjoyed it...even if it was a bit predictable.
Good story, I prefer fantasy to sci-fi; this book was a little heavy on the science fiction for me.
Interesting plotline with likable characters, though Acorna, herself is portrayed somewhat one-dimensionally.

Hubby said this book is EXCELLENT. I just finished and also liked it; I'm on to Acorna's Quest next.

I'm not usually a sci-fi fan, but wanted to check out a few titles to see if it was time to broaden my horizons. 'Acorna' is part little girl (rapidly growing up) and part unicorn, with very unhumanlike powers. She is found by a couple of kindly space explorers, but the planet to which they bring her has a nasty secret of its own, which could endanger her life, and theirs.
This is a wonderful tale of growing up and trying to find your way. I am a big fan of Anne McCaffrey and expected a great read, I was not disappointed. I feel that the character of Acorna is one of her best ever. I am looking forward to reading more about her.
The three rough and tumble space miners who found her couldn't explain where her perfect little unicorn horn came from or why she had hooves instead of feet and hands, but they loved the little girl they named Acorna and protected her all the same. Soon they learn what secret powers their waif possesses and the stakes are even higher! How will she deal with the secrets held by the planet Kezdet? For surely her special talents will come in handy.

Their distinct personalities are clearly reflected in their speech patterns and inflections. Fields conveys the strong emotion that runs through the book. The deeper modulations are a little murky at times, but Fields's clear articulation still comes through. A sequel, ACORNA'S QUEST, continues the story.

I am one of Ms. McCaffrey's most loyal fans, but this book is just plain insipid.

I can't rate this apropriately because while I did start reading it, I haven't finished it and I don't think I ever will. The Acorna series seems interesting enough, but in the end, not really my thin I guess...
