A thoroughly enjoyable read. Jeannie Ralston has written a great book; her talents as an editor really shines in this book. She writes with a style that flows and grabs the reader into the story. As I read the book about her, and her husband's adventure in growing lavender, and how the the family business that was established; I could almost smell the lavender blossoms blooming. Ralston's style was fabulous in writing style. The book was thoroughly enjoyed page for page until the very end. I could read more...

I enjoyed reading this book. I never expected to learn so much about lavender and now wish to see these fields in bloom.

I was so looking forward to reading this book. Sounded like such an adventure! I love photography and people who break from corporate chains to develop their own life. Sorry to say, this book was a huge disappointment. I made it to page 105 and just had to give it up. (I adhere to Nancy Pearl's philosophy: life's too short to read a book that hasn't grabbed you by page 100. At my age I should amend that to page 50.)
Author Jeannie Ralston is a spoiled snob, who is married to a narcissistic bully. She puts down everything about Texas and the people who live there. He's always off on a photo shoot, leaving her to deal with his grandiose schemes. And she WHINES all the time.....geez, get over yourself. I should have read reviews on amazon.com before starting this book. A few reviewers did say that the book got better in the last third, but I have stacks and stacks of books to read, so I won't waste any more time on this one.
In summary: NYC magazine writer dumps fiance to marry egotistical photographer who bullies her into moving to hills of Texas, leaves her to do his dirty work on rebuilding a stone house while he's gadding about the world, she hears bio clock ticking, drinks too much wine, and whines about everything. He's always gone, she gets things done but not with positive spirit, finally has kid, drags kid on shoots with hubby to exotic places....I gave up.
