Lovely, deep sigh... that's all I could do as I finished this book by Teresa Medeiros.
Gabriel Fairchild has returned from the Royal Navy a scarred, hard man. Thinking that his "love" ran away from him upon seeing his wounds and loss of sight, HE runs away to the country, denouncing all civility, family and friends.
Samantha Wickersham is determined to nurse Gabriel back to the proud, honorable, dashing young man he was before the war. Her fortitude, wit and integrity help her to heal his wounds, salve his soul and teach him to live (and love) again.
Together Samantha and Gabriel prove that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, even a blind beholder. And that love conquers all.
This book is intensely passionate, with strong characters, a tender story-line and a touch of mischief. By the end of the first chapter, I was so captivated by the hero and heroine that I couldn't put the book down.

I read this book in one day and enjoyed every minute of it. It has the classic "Beauty and The Beast" theme which happens to be a favorite of mine. Samantha was a spunky heroine who's quick wit and spunk made her the perfect match for her impatient patient. Gabriel was a hero to be adored. Unlike most "wounded" heroes who choose to sulk and mope about - Gabriel's defense was witty sarcasm and a beastly temper. He was a complete ass and I simply adored him!
I found myself laughing out loud several times throughout the book and even came close to shedding a tear or two.
Highly Recommended!

A good read. The twist in the middle will surprise the unwary. Love is blind would be a good sub-title for this story.

Such a great love story - makes you sigh and your heart smile. I have recently discovered Teresa Medeiros and I have yet to find a story that I don't like. A wonderful writer - you truly feel the love the characters have for one another. These two characters, Gabriel and Sammantha are absolutely wonderful - the romantic tension was unbearable at times, but truly a story worth reading. The story has a kind of Beauty & the Beast and Jane Eyre feel to it - but with a twist! I highly recommend it!

Great book, it's the first one I've read by this author and am looking forward to reading more by her. This story hooked me from the very beginning, and I finished it in record time. Gabriel's injury has turned him into a beast to all around him and wanting to wallow in his own misery. Samantha comes into his life to help him find the light and help him learn to live again. I found myself laughing outloud quite a few times while reading the dialoge between Samantha & Gabriel and found myself getting a little impatient with them at times because of their own stubborness. All the secondary characters are well written and only add to the story and plot. The few twists in this story kept me going and wanting to see how the HEA could happen.
This book is definately a keeper

After Naval Officer Gabriel Fairchild is injured in battle, leaving him blind and scarred, he is abandoned by his fiancee. Retreating to his family's mansion, Gabriel locks himself away from those he loves. Prim Samantha Wickersham takes the position of nurse when she arrives at Fairchild Park. After meeting Gabriel who acts like a beast toward her, Samantha knows she has her work cut out for her. As Gabriel and Samantha engage in a battle of wills, she tries to drive him out of his self pity and give him back his independence.
This is a wonderful Beauty and the Beast story. Both Samantha and Gabriel are characters you want to root for. In addition, the secondary characters are well-rounded and a great addition to this story. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

This is the first book I've read by Medieros and I loved it! The story plot was pretty original and the writing was great. There didn't seem to be any dragging, she kept the plot moving along, and I wanted to keep reading. If life didn't intrude, I would have read this in one sitting:)

very enjoyable. the author is good with her dialogue..interesting plot
I really enjoyed this book. Very well written characters and an enchanting story.
This author never fails to deliver a touching love story, with an ending that will bring you to tears.
This book is a bit different. A story line of a man who loses his site and his love. Without giving away a HUGE twist in the story, which rocked.... I will say that it that is an extreemely romantic story, that you do not want to miss!!!! In case you don't like h/h seperations, the h/h do get seperated at the end.

This was my first book by Mederios that I tried, and I have to say (even loving vampires and the paranormal) that this was the best I have read so far. It was not your typical nurse-the-hero-back-to-health-with-love story, and that made it well worth the time.
One of the best romance stories I have ever read.

I LOVE this book, is keeper for me. I loved both the H/H. They were strong and very loveable characters. I can totally understand why the heroin did what she did and said to the hero for him to prove her that he was worthy of her. Later when she realizes how foolish it was of her to say that to the hero, she owns up to it and help the hero out.
I would highly recommend this book to historical romance lovers.

There is something familiar about his nurse. Gabriel Fairchild has gone blind in the service of his country, but he is hardly resigned to it. He blunders through his house like a bull in a china shop. He has chased off nurses by the score, but Samantha Wickersham is different-- she seems un-scareoffable. And there's something familiar about her that Gabriel just can't quite put his finger on. And she's very soft and warm... and did Gabriel mention familiar?

sweet read. triumph over tragedy.
This book was absolutely wonderful. First read by this author, and I will be reading more of her in the future. It was heartwrenching and beautiful. I've been trying to pick books from the All About Romance top 100 list. This one wasn't on it, but I picked it up at a thrift shop. And am I ever glad I did. :) I'm not sure if I'm posting this one, it may have to go on my "keeper shelf"! (sigh)

hero returns from war blinded, fiancee deserts him, young nurse comes to care for him. mostly predictable, but there is a curve ball in this story that i didn't expect. it was an enjoyable story.
Not as good as her paranormals but still a good read.
Quick easy reading romance. Again, strong heroine, tortured hero. Favorite set up of mine.
Enjoyed reading this book very much.
A great read!
The whole book was good, but the last few chapters were great.
A quick read, just when you thought you knew the ending, there's a twist!
I really enjoyed this story. It was a great read.
Kept me guessing there was more to the story until the very end. Loved it!!
Great read!
Typical Regency Historical Romance. Nice, light reading, fun characters. I enjoyed it.
Both hero and heroine were intriguing in this twisted tale, similar to Beauty and the Beast. a storyline as old as time, but Medeiros gives it uniqueness in it's script. The secondary characters from servent to family add depth to this story also. A good read!
Fairly entertaining read. Medeiros tells the story of a scarred military hero and his nurse who helps him find life worth living again. It was predictable but the love story developed in a believable manner. Teresa Medeiros writes kind of tepid love scenes which is a bit of a disappointment. A pleasant book but nothing memorable.

A very good book set in old England about a war hero who lost his sight, his fiancee', and his hope for the future. His new nurse engages the arrogant earl in a battle of both wit and wills. She puts the light back into his world.
This book was good. Set back in the 1800. Love, war, self pity, lost love and found love. I liked this story very much. Great ending!!

Sad tale involving a naval officer that lost his sight and a woman that is hired as his nurse.
Earl and naval hero Gabriel Fairchild lost his sight, fallen-angel good looks and fiancée after the battle of Trafalgar, only to acquire tart-tongued nurse Samantha Wickersham, a young woman with a shadowy past who refuses to let Gabriel sink into self-pity.
I enjoyed the book but not as much as her earlier novels.
