Addt Kane could not wiat to leave her small Illinois hometown to take a teaching job in the gold rich Colorado hills. Then robbers burst into the bank where she was withdrawing her savings and, in a moment of stark terror, she became their captive. Remorseless and ruthles, they took her into the country, intending to ravish her. But one of them was former Confederate soldier Cole Parker and he swore to protect this spirited woman who'd unexpectedly touched his heart. Now to win her love Cole would follow Addy to Central City, a mining boomtown filled with dreamer, desperadoes, and the rich and powerful men who would court Addy. But Addy had only one desire, to lie in Coles arms forever and to fight for the love that held the glorious promise of tomorrow.

Widowed Addy Kane was abducted during a bank robbery in Unionville, Illinois. A member of the bank bandits, shot during the robbery, followed the robbers back to their hole. There he shot it out with the leader, who wanted to abuse Addy.

Nick Coleman/Cole Parker and Addy meet again and again over Addy's trip to Colorado to take a teaching post. Neither are ready for love or marriage, but they can't shake the inevitability of their meetings.

This is a great story that won't let go until the last page.
