This book was so interesting it was hard to put down. I wish the book would have continued on until the end of the war. It ended with Benedict Arnold's Treason. Philbrick is an excellent writer and researcher. He brings the Revolution to life.

In this one, I learned so much about the war between the colonies and Britain. The politics, the backbiting, the strengths and weaknesses of the struggle, the officers and the infant government is unbelievable. It was chaotic at best.

The depth of the research about Benedict Arnold, a rather flamboyant character, is amazing. I did not realize that he was such a military genius. Washington believed that he was the best general that America had until he decided that the best path for our country and himself would be under the rule of Britain.

I am always amazed at the research this author puts into his historical novels. And, amazingly, Philbrick makes reading history enjoyable which was certainly not my experience during college or high school.
