This is why I read historical fiction! Gingrich and Forstchen do a masterful job of bringing Valley Forge to life. The reader can almost feel and smell the atmosphere as Washington and his loyal troops face undaunting challenges while fighting for democracy. You will get an excellent history lesson while being tremendously entertained. Run, don't walk, to your nearest bookstore/library and do yourself a big favor- read this book!

The sequel book of "To Try Mens Souls" was a good read and definitely recommended but it does not have the same type of "can't put it down" as the first. The people portrayed are not as compelling as the first book but that being said I was not disappointed as the book is still a quality piece. A must read if you have read the first book.
