Story centers around a suburban mom (Jessica Matthews) who gets mauled by a hairy creature as she takes out the trash. She wakes up later to find that the creature nearly killed her and so she had to be Turned into a vampire. Thusly she discovers a whole world she didn't know existed that has vampires, wolf shapshifters, and humans working together, but they also have enemies. Starts off interesting, but about third or halfway through begins feel repetitive. Lots of mom jokes and snarking off at vampires. Jessica may be the soul mate of one of the oldest vampires, and has a "dilemma" over whether she should sleep with him (there is a lot of lusting and description of how gorgeous he is - on about the eyes and accent and he uses a lot of Gaelic), thus be married to him for 100 years, and also worries about how this could affect her children. A lightly plotted story, pretty quick, fun-type romance read. Has a MaryJanice Davidson air, not quite as good, but I'll give this author another chance.

This was such a good book - I couldn't stop reading, yet I didn't want it to end. As soon as I finished I immediately bought the sequel. If you like your paranormal romance more light-hearted and even funny, this is a book for you.

A pleasure to read, had me cracking up laughing. A modern day mom is turned into a vampire. Those chocolate cravings just don't disappear, & eating food is not an option. Oh but her body has been transformed into a thing of beauty. She meets Patrick, a vampire who claims to be her true love. Then there is a battle of the good vampires against the bad vampires. Quick easy read.

Funny, light-hearted take on the vampire genre with a healthy dose of "hot & heavy" thrown in. Some of that could have been left out and the plot would have been just as good but who cares, right? This one kept me entertained, made me giggle a couple of times, and convinced me to read the sequel (due out in Jumy 2007.) Enjoy!

Jessica Matthews Wednesday night started out typically enough, until she discovered that her 14 year old son Bryan had conveniently forgotten to take the household trash to the curb before going to bed at 10pm. So, grumbling to herself about irresponsibility, Jessica finds herself hauling the two huge trash bins herself, when a huge creature knocks her down, tears her throat open, and sucks the blood from her body until she dies. She awakes in a sterile room, sucking the femoral artery of an absolutely gorgeous, entirely nude man. Thus begins Jessicas new life - her afterlife.
Jessica of course has a lot to learn about her new existence. The Consortium plans to take over Broken Heart, Oklahoma, and they need her cooperation and assistance, but she still has some emotional baggage from her living life that needs to be dealt with as well. Add a couple of German werewolves, a rogue lycan, dead bodies popping up all over town, sizzling sexual encounters, and a centuries-old prophesy involving the ring Jessica inherited from her grandmother, and you have the basis for an unusually good story.
When I first picked up this book, I wasnt entirely sure what to expect. But Jessicas practical, down-to earth manner and her rapier wit made me feel like I was reading about a good friend from the very beginning. I found myself having a lot of trouble putting this book down once I started reading it, and now I am looking forward to reading the next four books in Michelle Bardsleys Broken Heart Vampires series!
