Tess Gerritsen has written a book that I just couldn't put down. Two stories are being told simultaneously, and then they merge as one great tale!!! White slavery, a hostage crisis, a pregnant police officer with an FBI agent husband, and many more twists and turns. I can't recomend highly enough if you love the mystery genre.

A horrific but fascinating look at immigration and slavery. Modern issues written by an expert mystery/crime author.

The main character, Jane, was a woman who showed that she was human like everyone else when confronted with motherhood. She was a good cop and made the story more enjoyable. The tension throughout the book kept you turning the pages to see how it would all turn out.

My first Gerritsen book and I was pleasantly surprised. Quite a few moments in the book where I thought "Whoa...didn't expect that." Tended to be a little slow in parts for my taste, but I can see where it was needed to really set up the characters/story etc...I'm not sure that I'll venture to read anymore in the Rizzoli-Isles books, but this one was pretty good.

Jane Rizzoli is about to have her first baby. Her water broke so she rushed to the hospital only to encounter a desperate young woman who holds her and others hostage. The young woman was delivered to the morgue, found alive and transferred to the hospital. As she recovered she murdered a strange man with his own gun which she kept to hold her hostages.

Jane is afraid that this could be her last case but works to communicate with the hostage taker. Hopefully she can discover the motive behind the hostage taking and save herself and her baby. The story is interesting and Gerritsen writes so well that the reader cannot help but empathize with Rizzoli and her husband as they work to get to the bottom of the case. Good read.

Medical Examiner Maura Isles is shocked to find that one of the bodies in the morgue cooler isn't quite dead. The unidentified woman is rushed to the hospital to later regain consciousness and kill a security guard with his own gun. She holds six hostages in the hospital's Diagnostic Imaging Department, including a very pregnant Detective Jane Rizzoli who has just gone into labor. Soon Maura has joined forces with Jane's husband, FBI agent Gabriel Dean, to track down the killer's identity.

The 5th book in the popular Rizzoli & Isles series is a fast-paced read. This book is well-written and well-plotted, touching on white slavery, murders and government conspiracies. I highly recommend this book. My rating: 5 Stars.

Really good. This is a fast read and it was gripping and hard to put down. Vanish brings human trafficing back to the front to remind us all that it is alive and thriving in the United States and that we need to help stop it.

Back:

A blessed event becomes a nightmare for pregnant homicide detective Jane Rizzoli when she finds herself on the wrong side of a hostage crisis in this intense and relentless new thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of Body Double.

A nameless, beautiful woman appears to be just another corpse in the morgue. But when Boston medical examiner Maura Isles unzips the body bag and looks down at the body, she gets the fright of her life. The corpse opens its eyes. Very much alive, the woman is rushed to the hospital. But the bizarre soon turns lethal. With shockingly cool precision, she murders a security guard and seizes hostages...one of them a pregnant patient Jane Rizzoli.

Who is this violent, desperate soul, and what does she want? As the tense hours tick by, Maura joins forces with Jane's husband, FBI agent Gabriel Dean, to track down the mysterious killer's identity. When federal agents suddenly appear on the scene, Maura and Gabriel realize that they are dealing with a case that goes far deeper than just an ordinary hostage crisis. Only Jane, trapped with the armed madwoman, holds the key to the mystery...if she survives.
