I loved this series of books. I have read them all. This was my second reading of this book. I bought it for my daughter but had to read it again first!
It's not my favorite Jane Whitefield book, but I think it's good to start with it. It introduces Jane and you find out a lot about her background.
I keep hoping Thomas Perry will write another book about this character. They are hard to put down!

Jane Whitefield, a modern day native indian guide, guides people who need to disappear. She's always strong, and resourceful and brave, and the books move fast with lots of twists. In this one she almost gets caught. Jane is a great character, and it's hard to put this book down.

Jane Whitefield series #1 in a series of 5
Jane Whitfield is in the business of hiding desperate people from their pasts. She is a Native American who knows how to vanish in her surroundings, and has a paranoid streak that helps her protect her 'clients'. This is another in a series of inventively plotted thrillers.
A very interesting book. I have not read one like it before. A different point of view for a mystery. Liked it a lot.
I read this book after reading several books written later in the series. I enjoyed finding how Jane got started.
Liked this so well I ordered other books in the series before I even finished the story.
The first in a series about Jane Whitfield, a Native American guide who leads people out of the wilderness - not the tree-filled variety but the kind created by enemies who want you dead. She is in the one-woman business of helping the desperate disappear.
That's the book blurb - I loved the book. The character of Jane is drawn perfectly, she is someone you want to know and yet hope you'll never have to.

Loved this book. Love the character. I'd read it years ago and just gave it a re-read. Absolutely fast-paced. Jane Whitefield is a guide. If you find out your boss is cooking the books and need to disappear, Jane is who you need to call. I'm exhausted when I read this series-in the front door, out the back door, up the stairs, down the stairs, into the airport as a blond, out of the airport as a brunette. Wrong way down the freeway exit. Whew!! Just a good, fast, fun read. Totally recommended!
This is the first of the Jane Whitefield series. She is a Native American who helps people (who need to) disappear. Thomas Perry is a good writer and the stories capture you.
Very good read. The author kept me guessing, some interesting twists.
This is a first for me in this series. I'll look for others. Very suspenseful!!
A young Indian woman spirits desperate people away from their tormentors...lots of native lore, and thrilling get aways....
I love this series
A VERY interesting read!
A battered wife needs a safe haven from her violent husband. A card shark who has gone too far craves the safety of anonymity. A young boy, tired of being a pawn in a bitter custody battle, wants to escape into a new identity. Jane Whitefield, a tough, smart, resourceful woman with a strong Native American heritage, can help. She knows all the tricks it takes to make someone disappear. Her latest case is one John Felker, who has been accused of ripping off big bucks from his employer and needs to acquire a new identity, at least until things cool off. Even though Felker's story doesn't quite add up, Jane finds herself strongly attracted to him. Unfortunately, her attraction overwhelms her judgment, and it's only after Felker has disappeared that she finds he's not been completely honest about his background. Jane sets out on a journey to find the truth about Felker--a journey that will take her from Canada to California and that will end in violence in the dark forests of upstate New York. A suspenseful and satisfying thriller.

Jane Whitefield is a Native American who has a one-woman business of helping the desperate disappear. Using her Wolf Clan contacts and her own skills in covering trails and concealing identities, she has helped many escape their past. When her lastest client, an ex-cop accused of embezzelment, wants to disappear like another friend she helped, she doesn't suspect anything unusual until she walks into a well-planned trap.
i very much enjoyed this book, it was recommended by a friend and lived up to the hype (so to speak). after reading it i immediately ordered the rest of the series.
This is the first book in the Jane Whitefield series. I read the 4th in the series, The Face-Changers a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Glad to get back to this series! Jane Whitefield is a Native-American guide who leads people to a new life when they deserve a second chance and are being sought by others. She knows how to cover her tracks and provide her clients with new identities to start a new life. In this one, she tries to obtain a new life for ex-cop, John Felker, who is wrongfully blamed for embezzling. In the process, Jane falls for Felker and has an affair with him. But is Felker really who he claims to be or is he using Jane for ulterior motives? This one really had some good twists to the story and was highly entertaining. I especially liked how Perry brought Jane's native-American skills into the story which made it all the more fascinating. High recommendation and I'll be reading more of these.
Oh, oh, oh, OH! You have GOT to read this book! It's well written, gripping, and intensely satisfying. I devoured it, read the included excerpt for the 2nd book in the series and immediately ordered it and the third one from someone on paperbackswap.com. So glad I discovered this book and I have high hopes for the others in the series. Can't recommend this one enough!
It's not a genre I usually read and this didn't change my mind. I didn't finish it and didn't like it.
