Nikki Boyd is a Special Agent with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations, Missing Persons Task Force. She chose this line of work after her sister, Sarah, disappeared nearly ten years ago. The case was never solved. On her day off work, a rock-climbing outing with her friend Tyler is cut short when her boss contacts her. Sixteen-year-old Bridget Ellison has disappeared from a nearby cabin where she was staying with her brother and some friends. After interviewing everyone, Nikki thinks the girl may have gotten lost in the woods. But when a piece of evidence turns up, Nikki begins to believe that Bridget may have been seized by the same man who kidnapped her sister.

This is the first book in the Nikki Boyd series. The investigation leads us into the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, one of my favorite places to visit. The suspense story was well done. I never did guess the villain correctly. There is a hint of potential romance between Nikki and her friend Tyler Grant. Tyler's wife was Nikki's best friend who was killed in an accident. I'm guessing there will be a slow burn romance over the course of this series. I did find the writing to be a bit odd. Sometimes we had a scene with new characters who came out of nowhere. I needed more explanation about who they were. My rating: 3.5 Stars.

Nikki Boyd is an agent with the Tennessee Missing Person Task Force. A teenager has been abducted supposedly by a young boy she met on the internet. Of course, that young man does not exist. Nikki's sister disappeared 10 years ago and has never been seen since. So this case turns really personal for her.

Add to the mix, she's falling in love with her best friend's husband. It's been a year since her friend lost her life in a boating accident. So she understands fully when there is a loss in the family ..whether it's an abduction or by death.

There are some parts of the book that were outstanding. I lived in Tennessee as a child, and the author's description of the area made me a bit homesick. The characters were interesting, although it seems every time Nikki and Tyler talked to each other, it was mostly about the loss they both felt and how they had turned away from their faith.

The chase through the National Park was exciting, but the ending left me wanting something more ..or different... It just didn't satisfy me.

My thanks to NetGalley / Revell for furnishing a digital copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Hold on to your heart while reading this one. This is an all too real situation about what happens when a child goes missing. The author states, "I tackled the more difficult side of research about what happens when a child goes missing, and how families and friends often respond, all with local authorities...".. She goes on to say, "I have taken some liberties, including creating the newly instated Missing Persons Task Force team for the sake of the story."

This is book one in the Nikki Boyd Files, where she talks about the first forty eight hours being he most critical to missing children's cases. Nikki can sympathize with victims' families because her sister went missing ten years ago. Never found. Nikki says, "I know that one of the hardest things a person can face is not knowing where a loved one is."

Sixteen year old girl is reported missing. Kyle legal guardian is the older brother. Woven into the story are flash backs to Nikki's time with her little sister. Tyler is her best friend's husband. Today they were celebrating what would have been Katie's Birthday. They lost her a year ago today. Tyler was still beating himself up about the event; three tours of duty he says, "in special ops, and I couldn't save my own wife."

Nikki wonders, "Why does everything have to happen at once, God? Because this day can't end this way?"

"Sometimes there truly is nothing you can do to change your circumstances. Sometimes all you can do is hold on for dear life and pray that God will help you find a way through the storm. Sometimes he shows you a way to escape, and sometimes he walks through the fire with you!"

This author pens a haunting, suspenseful, surreal tale of a young missing girl. Warning: You'll be up late reading this page turner and biting your nails as the author takes you alongside Nikki and Tyler and the rest of the rescue team to uncover clues to the girl's whereabouts. The author has a few twists and turns as the author ends this novel in preparation for the next adventure! If you love a suspenseful read with a splash of romance you'll love this book. This makes for a great read and one that would work well in a book club setting!

Loads of suspense in this story. A missing teen and the hint of a resolution to a past cold case pulled me along for a thrill ride with Nikki Boyd. Usually I like a good balance of romance and suspense in my romantic suspense books, but in this case, the romance is a very slow burning one, acting as a delicious side dish to the heart pounding suspense. This book is a tough read since it deals with a missing girl named Bridget who met someone on the internet. Nikki Boyd has joined the Missing Persons Task Force after her sister, Sarah, went missing 10 years ago. She is now in charge of trying to find Bridget. Her best friend's husband, Tyler, decides to help her as his pregnant wife and friend of Nikki has died in a drowning a year ago. They both know what it feels like to miss a family member. The search takes them to the Shenandoah National State Park in Tennessee. When the serial killer makes it a personal vendetta against Nikki, the tension builds and leaves you on the edge of your seat and pages flying in order to find out if Bridget will ever be found. The book is full of twists and turns and the action is fast-paced. I am now looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I would highly recommend this book to those who love romantic suspense.
