Professor Josef Held is widowed & recovering his loss, he doesn't want to ever let anyone new into his quiet, safe world. But when the Nazis come for the Jews, he see's his neighbor is killed, and offers his student Michael Blum as safe place to hide living in his attic.
Michael, A Jew, loves Elke, who is not one. The Nazis forbid relationships of a Jew and a non-Jew. Professor Held helps the two continue their by shielding Michael, as well as helping support the resistance of the Nazis in Holland.
The story unfolds as the war continues. A beautiful and heartbreaking story about love, friendship and courage against the odds. A great read.
