Nobody believes Scully when he says he's just seen Jody Dean (his boyhood buddy and former colleague, who supposedly committed suicide two years before) speeding down a freeway. So the detective sets out to prove that Dean is alive, only to fall in with a crew of undercover cops who've slipped their leash and are now running a convoluted money-laundering scheme that ties U.S. tobacco shipments to South American drug barons.

This is the 2nd of the Shane Scully novels; The Tin Collectors is the 1st. My small "pass-around" group of me, husband, mom & best friend all enjoyed this book ... but read the 1st one 1st!

Stephen J. Cannell sure can write great mysteries and unforgetable characters. This is a Shane Scully adventure, and the book is great on so many levels.

A great series. Stephen J. Cannell's Shane Scully series is very much like his tv series, fast moving, good characters, good plot. This story shakes up Scully's world because most of the ideals that he's had since he was a child and the way he thought about those close to him are completely blown out of the water and he has to rethink his life while trying to stay alive. If you like to read series, I'd recommend this one but read The TIN COLLECTORS first (book #1)

LAPD fast & furious & excellent reading. Expected from a successful
TV writer. You won't be disappointed if you are a crime-buff reader.

Shane Scully rides again! Cannell writes a gripping novel about the LAPD and it's Detective Bureau.

"Stephen J. Cannell's THE VIKING FUNERAL is the sort of fast and furious read you might expect from one of TV's most successful and inventive writer-producers" - Los Angeles Times. I really enjoyed this book as it was a real page turner...I couldn't put it down!

Didn't get far--I've read a lot of Cannell's books and like these characters but when it gets to where you are reading Spanish and it goes to Mexican (no offense to anyone, I feel the same about a book being in French or Italian, etc. makes it too hard to read) then I just quit, does not interest me no matter how good it might be to others!
